OK ... first off there is no definitive proof that aspartame or anything else in diet coke causes cancer anymore than the saccharine scare back in the 70s (since disproven). If you want to have a diet coke go ahead and don't worry too much about it.
Now ... having said that, 8 cans is a bit excessive, but let's approach it from a different angle. First ... the cost ... if you buy it in a 12 pack, it costs you at least $2.00 a day ... or more like $5.00 if you're buying them from a machine ... that's $700 - $1800 a year in something not the best for you. And an even better reason ... the caffeine in the soda is a diuretic (makes you lose water from your body) so drinking one actually makes your body MORE thirsty not less ... and deprives the body of hydration that it needs to do everything from function during the day to metabolizing food to helping you stay healthy. So ... I'd still recommend slowly weening yourself off the Diet Coke and drinking more water. The most common causes of being tired, upset stomach, fatigue, stress, agitation, and headaches are ALL linked to dehydration. Drinking more water and less diet coke and caffeine will help all those things if you suffer from them.
I used to drink a ton of diet coke and it took a while to break myself of the habit ... but now I only drink about 1 a month .. just for the taste. Water is MUCH MUCH better for you ... and I feel better and more alert than when I was drinking so much diet coke as well.

Bad Bad Bad ... To many chemicals that are unhealthy and can cause some serious medical and health problems down the road ... I stopped sodas some time ago and my health has improved ... I started drinking more water ... I drink six to eight 16oz bottles a day of the non-carbonated fruit flavored water as I do not like plain water ... I also mix in (2 times a day) a new energy drink that just hit the market that comes in a powder form and it comes in ez to carry packs. Just pour one packet into a bottle, shake it up and you have an energy drink that is healthy and natural and delivers awesome and extreme energy in just minutes and it last for several hours. It IS VERY BAD! Diet soda of any kind usually has aspartame sweetener in it which was initially a rat poison. Not to mention the coloring and it has also been proven that diet sodas enhance your appetite and in the long run make you gain MORE weight! If your going to drink soda you might as well drink regular soda just not very often. Water, milk and juice is better for you. Red grape juice is very good to drink and good for you.

Dark colas contain phosphoric acid which affects your brain cells, lowers the pH of your body resulting in constant acidosis, and also a major factor in chronic inflammation.
I drank a lot of diet soda (about three to four 20-oz. bottles a day) for years, and suffered from migraines and joint stiffness. I quit only recently, and I have not had a migraine since. I'm hoping that as more time goes by, I'll feel better physically.

I did the same...but...I had never in my life had a cavity in my teeth until I had done that for a few months. Now I have at least 5 that dentists say directly relate to it.
They are called 'wash' cavities. They are the ones where the liquid washes off the back of your teeth when you swallow.
My advice...not worth the dental pain!
Here is another little known use for Coke: It's acidity is so high that in Canada the road crews use it to wash the blood off of the road when an animal is killed by a vehicle.
So if its that acidic, do you want that much in your mouth?

I don't know how you'd think it is better than regular. Carbs may make you fat, but at least they won't give you cancer. Do you get a lot of headaches? My Mother used to drink that much diet coke and she had chronic migraines. It turned out it was a brain tumour! Drink water instead!

Well, any diet drink with aspartame contains a substance that failed every reasonable scientific test and never should have been approved for public consumption...but a certain former Secretary of Defense was influential with the company that made it and stood to make a lot of money from it. You can look this up.
Still want that Diet Coke?

There are much worse things you could be addicted to, however, something sweet and chemical with no nutritional value should not take the place of water. The phosphoric acid leaches calcium and could cause noticeable bone loss over time if you don't supplement. I personally don't trust aspartame; I think it causes more health problems than obesity does. I also think it's a bit addictive.

how old r u?
if u young u might die. if u like twenty or something it might be okay. u should cut back though. this dude drank like 12 liters for a coke drinking contest, and he died from the carbonation. likewise it is very unadvisable to have that much sugar in one day.

It probably wouldn't kill you, BUT the sweeteners in diet drinks are not good for you in such high amounts. Try cutting back slowly.
