What does this text mean in Hebrews 12:6

"The Lord disciples those he loves, and he punishes eveyone he accepts as a son."

I thought punishment was only for the wicked.

You are incorrect. The text is " the Lord diciplines those he love"

What is discipline but teaching through expeience. Rules and regulations are involved. We are taught By Jesus to honor the WORD of GOD.

And he punishes everyone he accepts as a son/daughter.

When I would do wrong my father would discipline me. When i refused to take or heed discipline my father chastized/punished me.
If my father did not punish me it meant he did not care what happened to me.

The same can be said about my Father in Heaven. When he punishes or chastizes ne for wrongdoing it means he cares for me.

If we are not disciplined or chastized or punished by GOD while on earth then GOD does not accept us as his children.

Therefore we must realize that we are unsaved if these transactions do not take place.

Rev.20:1-6 [ No Satan ]; The heavenly are with Jesus as first resurrected, those that loved not their life unto death Rev.17:6 caused martyrs as Rev.6:9-11; 12:11; we are in the last days when Satan is angry because he has a short time.
Rev.9:1-5 [ 5x 30 = 150 ], The pit is opened for Satan, THE SEALED OF GOD ARE THERE.
John 6:39,40,44; 14:3 [ THE PLACE IS PREARED FOR THE RAISED UP ], Michael of Jude 9; Dan.12:1-13; in Rev.12:6-11,12; with holy angels cast Satan down and Michael is there to the last in 1Thes.4:15-17;
Remember or find more scriptures that say as Matt.20:22,23 Jesus died and they do as well. The world will hate them as they did Jesus.
They take up their cross and follow Jesus. 2Tim.3:1-7 does not. Matt.10:34-36 is a real opposition.

I applaud Your query. I truthfully anticipated much more hate-spewing than You have thus far in those solutions, however in some way i appreciate it. As a Christian i used to be taught that the Holy Quran is evil and hateful and dull, and God forgive me i thought it, with out even watching at it. When i eventually attempted to learn it (an English translation) i used to be studying a terrible translation that simply left me pressured. But i did not stop. Later i bought an excessively well English translation with commentaries and histories that helped me appreciate. People it IS a piece of severe cosmetic and profound Truth. If You are a believer within the Almighty, You will listen his knowledge. Don't be so chook to TRY! "He is ever willing to Mercy."

God is in charge of it all. The devil does only what God tells him to. I have been in the word for a yr now and since I have been in the word. I have had problem after problem. All the years I did not know God, I was fine but now the lord is collecting and correcting and he will bless me according to his word. You cannot be a servant of God unless you are able to accept bad from the Lord too.

this word does not pertain to eternal punishmkent but punishment such as you would give a child - a spanking, time out, etc in order to curtail a particular behavior.
The wicked and unrepentent will receive eternal punishment.
The sons of God will receive a type of punishment ( correction- discipline) that has an end and is meant to bring about a sanctified life, purity , righteousness.

Remember Jesus said "Come all you who are heavy laden and I will give you rest for my burden is light and my Yoke is easy..."
Two Oxen are yoked together. One is older and knows what needs to be done .The other is young and unbroken. But the older is stronger and makes the young follow until he learns his job. That's what God means by correcting. If you give your life to God and not just sin here and there, but continue in sin,He is going to correct you.
You don't want the punishment the unsaved are going to get!

A loving Father teaches what is right over one's personal and selfish desires. Haven't you ever heard of parents punishing children so that they will learn? If our Lord did not love us, he would leave us be.

OK, here's an analogy. If your little son is about to put his hand in a fire, you might run over to him and slap his hand away before it gets to the flames. Then you will try to explain to him why he was about to really hurt himself.

God treats his children the same way. He chastises them before they get themselves into REAL trouble. Remember that Christians still commit sins, even after accepting Jesus as their savior.

Temporary discipline to educate a child about obedience is not the same as eternal punishment for the wicked who ultimately reject God and His Son, Jesus Christ. Since Christians -those who've repented of sin and accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour- are the adopted children of the Heavenly Father, we are His children. If we need to be steered in the true and right direction -the path which leadeth to life- by the rod of our Shepherd then He knows what's best for us. Even gold needs to be refined through fire. Do you not understand? Do you not see?
"He who spareth the rod hateth his son, but he who loves him disciplines him diligently" -Prov. 13:24. To withhold correction from a child that clearly needs correction is to damn that child to hell; for if you do not stop rebellion in its tracks -childhood- you eventually get anarchy. In fact to not discipline your children diligently is the same as hating your children.(Read the preceding verse again)
Here's something else: "Do not withhold correction from a child, for if you beat him with a rod he will not die; you shall beat him with a rod and deliver his soul from hell" -Prov.23: 13, 14. Did you catch that? To withhold correction from a child is the same as condemning that child to Hell. Parents will be held more accountable then children. If your child goes to hell as a result of lack of discipline, that child's soul is on you eternal conscience
Christians aren't perfect, nobody is; but true Christians -and believe me, God knows all hearts and minds- are the Heavenly Father's children. Which is why we, as God's children, are disciplined by our Heavenly Father -and because of His great love and grace. Ps. 23 "His rod and staff, they comfort me". The rod was used by a shepherd whenever it was an emercency, to save the sheep from harm -or worse- especially if the sheep kept repeating the same mistake. The staff was/is a sign of God's -The Good Shepherd's- strength and provision, His complete control and command. Letting His Spirit empower and use you for the Lord's own glory.
To wilfully and arrogantly choose the "path which leadeth to destruction"? You get to your chosen destination, for all of eternity. The punishment for sin is death -passed initially onto Adam and passed through to today. Sin is an eternal disease which is highly contagious -everyone is born into and inherits the Original Sin. That is why sin required the sacrifice of the Eternal Son of God. Otherwise there'd be no hope for any of us.
You ask, "What about infants?" I respond, "God is a holy and righteous Judge. For those who have not been able to hear the Gospel of Christ the Bible is quite clear.Read the Word of God and learn some answers. Judgement will be just, righteous and according to our knowledge of Him and His Word."
"For to whom much is given, much will be required".
In a continent like North America you can easily find resources that will knock your socks off. Scientific evidence -and even photographic evidence- of the Truth. Of course you can continue to keep your head in the sand or keep your ears covered, close your eyes. But the truth is out there; if you don't even bother to look for it then who can you blame for where an "unbeliever" spends eternity? The more knowledge and access to knowledge about God we all have, the more accountable we'll be before God -as to what was done with it and what choice you made.
"Choose this day whom you shall serve. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord."

I can only say that you don't know how to read. You just can't pick a sentence and try to gain wisdom from it. You need the whole chapter.
Now go back and read it again, but this time start with verse 5 and continue to the end.><>
