Growing up I was always real shy and would never trick or treat, do cheerleading, play sports or anything like that. I'm fine giving business speaches, but just can't seem to do physical activities infront of other people. My hubby signed us up for the gym. They have a room off to the side of the main one with the exercise machines and I still feel self consouus! I got so frustrated today I left the gym after only 10 minutes. There was no one else around but I feel like everyone is laughing at me. I'm not overweight. Am I crazy? What can I do to make it better?

I've very self conscious too. I find a couple things help me get through it; my outfit and my ipod. I have one excercise outfit that, for whatever reason, covers me up perfectly and makes me feel more confident. Like a power suit for the gym.

Also, when I have music, I get in to that, sing along in my head and get more wrapped up in myself, I guess. I'm just less aware of what's going on. I hope that helps you too.

See if the gym offers classes - just of women. Then you will fit right in because other gals will be doing the same as you - trying to get fit and loose weight.

Also, the city may have a parks & rec's type classes that have "buns, thighs, and hips" or pilates type classes. The buns one will usually not have any guys in them, if that helps. I've done both - the buns classes and exercise with a group of gals at the gym. Really helps and the pounds will come off - be patient!

You go girl!

No I don't think you're crazy, I believe it's pretty common. It will take time, but you will adjust. Unfortunately, it may be too late to try to enroll at Curves (for women) which is nice (I hear). You could try going to the gym when it's not so busy and also talk to a trainer who can help you and show you where the women-only room/classes are.
Good luck!

1) Get a grip
2) get over your insecurities
3) Live for the moment

You think you're the only one with these hang-ups? You're not. Go to the gym. Keep your mind on your workout. When thoughts enter your mind (that you'd rather not think about, such as 'they're laughing at me"), begin to concentrate on your breathing. Meditate on that, if only for a few seconds. Then, resume your work out. Try that for your ten minutes. Then, fifteen. Twenty. Work up to thirty.

You only think about what you were conditioned to think about. You can change that, ya know.

My pal's father used to shave their Cocker Spaniel close to to the epidermis in the summer; due to the fact he notion the deficient factor used to be too sizzling. Well, the deficient factor could cross off and conceal for days till his fur began to develop again. I believe that is an embarrassed puppy. Poor ancient Blackie.

You are new at this, don't worry. You continue on with what you do at the gym. You attend your own exercises
and don't worry about the others there. You are doing something good for yourself, don't let others hinder you from doing things good for you. Need be go with your husband.

Sounds like you need to see a head doctor. Get help on how to get to the reason or reasons why you feel like this.
I have been told if you think your crazy then you are not. It's the ones that think they are not crazy that really are. LOL
