I'm very slumpy in the way i stand and move becuase all of my friends are about three to five inces shorter than me. I'm awkward in the way I move becuase of it too. So, have any other tlaler-than-normal girls experienced this? How did you get better posture!?!

Yeah. I have one other tall friend who stands really straight... and it doesn't look good. it looks kind off strained and i want to avoid that. Just a note.

I know standing straight makes you look good... thats why I'm asking! I like the book idea. I'm in high school so i don't have a lot of time on my hands to start new activities like yoga or pilates.

pretend you have someone pulling up on your head as you sit or walk around, or balance books as you walk at home around your house. it will help train you to walk and sit better. good luck, its hard to overcome (but your back will thank you once you get better posture!)

YES. First of all realize how ugly it is to slump, and how sexy it is to carry yourself with confidence and grace. This will motivate you.
Second, work out and develop a body you're proud of. I started doing strength training with weights and in a few weeks I had developed strong shapely arms and shoulders which I was proud of (and a stronger back, necessary for good posture!). When I walked into a room, I pulled my shoulders back to the point where it was even a bit uncomfortable, and made my entrance. It felt geat, and I found myself standing up straight more and more of the time. People have complimented me on it.

**PILATES** Seriously, gives you a rockin' stomach/abs, is pretty easy and enjoyable (like yoga only not as "relaxing", I find yoga boring) and gives you gorgeous posture! Think about it, if you have nice abs, you're going to want to stand up straight and show off your blazing hot figure - the two go hand-in-hand. It's all about core strength!! (I'm 5'10" and it's the only thing that got rid of my little paunch - now I get compliments all the time & I'm not sure if it's my new figure or that I stand up straighter and get more attention!)

Don't be frightened of your height. Hey, Brooke Shields was nearly 6 feet tall in her teens! Try Pilates or the Alexander technique. Or practise walking with a book balanced on your head for 10 mins a day.
Just pull down your shoulders, and imagine that your head is suspended from the ceiling from an invisible thread. Push your hips under your tummy - don't let your butt stick out - and pull in your tummy.

OMG, i always have a problem with posture! My dad tells me all of the time that I have to stop slouching...
So, what helps me is this:
I tell my best friends and close friends that whenever they see me with a bad posture to tell me something (like a sort of cue word) which means to me that I need to straighten up.
Actually, it works because I get reminded about it often, which helps me remember that i need to have good posture.
Also, every time that you see someone with bad posture think of how bad that looks and that you want to look better. Therfore, you will automatically straighten up.
And, by the way, people do look much better when they have good posture - just think about it that way!
Hope that helps

Mum always taught me to pretend i am balancing books on my head... I really always just make sure im sitting or standing with a straight back, shoulders back, and i basically just got into the habit. I sometimes slouch if i feel like im sticking out too much, so i try to avoid wearing heals.... :D lol

hi. im in high school too. i have never had bad posture because i have been a dancer dince age three. but a suggestion is to lift your chin, and tighten your stomach at all times. also, keep your shoulders back so it doesnt look strained. then, you can get a better posture, and you might get a tighter stomach! hope it helps.

A good way to get good posture is to put your shoulders back & pretend there is a string pulling your head to the ceiling. Tell people to tell you when you are slouching too.

get better posture by just not slumping over when your talking to your friends. instead just tilt your head down, or sit down and talk to them, since the height is usually more equal that way
