I love sushi and I recently tried eel sauce but what exactly is in it ??

Is there Eel in there .

I have sushi quite a bit, but I've never heard of eel sauce. I'm guessing mushed up eel?

I have had eel sauce before, and although I know it's definitely not mashed up eel, I'm not exactly sure what goes into it. This (http://www.recipecottage.com/asian/smoked-eel-sauce01.html) was the only recipe I could find on it, although I'm not entirely sure how this turns out or if this is what is usually found on sushi.
