To really clean out your colon you should go on a 3 day fast, but not a fast of eating nothing.
A fast of eating only greens and/or brown rice, herbal tea and clean water. If you want to also clean your blood too, add some drops of echinechea to the tea.
On the 4th day drink nothing but water AND if you really want your colon sqeaky clean ... get a colonic.
A colonic will remove anything the fasting missed.
If you did this for every change of season, you would rarely get sick and your energy would be higher, not to mention your sense of well being would be terrific. 80-90% of disease starts in the colon.
Be careful when you go back to eating regularly. Do NOT start off by eating red meat or anything fried. Eat lightly for a few days before you eat anything 'heavy'.

There have been real, honest-to-goodness studies on colon cleansing in recent years, but they all have focused on the potential harm: abscesses caused by too much water, rectal perforation and electrolyte imbalance. All that water, usually tens of gallons, washes out the electrolytes that the colon was built to absorb. The water also washes away beneficial bacteria needed for digestion, and not magically only harmful bacteria, as the proponents claim.
Being regular can mean hitting the toilet three times a day or three times a week; there is zero evidence that more bowel movements will make you healthier. If you are constipated, then a laxative can make you feel better. Laxatives also aren't necessarily healthy. There are kinds that shock the bowels into moving, kinds that draw water into the intestines, and kinds that build bulk. Many doctors, particularly naturopaths, recommend the bulk-builders.
While colon cleaning can make some people feel better, it doesn't cure any disease; it's no more effective at relieving discomfort than an enema; and it is tantamount to throwing money down the proverbial toilet.

Well, I look at colons all day long, in my practice. After drinking a bowel prep, You do not pass an unusual amount of stool, certainly not 9-12 lbs as some indicate. The clean colon is pink and you can't tell it apart in an 8 year old versus an 80 year old.
Why so many people get so preoccupied with their colon function, I don't know. But it keeps us in the GI business pretty busy. We are more interested in preventing colon cancer, thru colorectal cancer screening with colonoscopy.

Those colon cleansing companies sure would like you to believe that! Of course it's to sell their products! I asked my gastroenterologist and he said anyone can clean their colon doing the same thing with taking a fiber tablet every day and drinking 6-8 glasses of water. Thus, keep that $75 bucks in your pocket from those "nutritional websites for colon cleanses" and invest in a nice evening at the movies , instead :)

Eat a high fiber diet, you know, fruits, vegetables, cereals. Try prunes. They work for me. Drink adequate fluids. As for caked-on food adhering to the lining of the colon - sounds as though we both watch those late-night infomercials on TV. My opinion is that expensive food supplements benefit the seller more than the buyer. If cleaning out your colon gives you more energy, you really do need more fiber in your diet! Seriously, laxatives and enemas, used incorrectly, can be dangerous to health.

some folks say a cleansing is important. I think it depends on your eating habits and your general health. If you eat well, a lot of fresh produce and drink a lot of water, you should not need a colon cleanse.
If you eat junk food, are tired, poor skin, overweight, etc. you may consider a gentle herbal type to start.
It will clean you out and make you feel better. BUT don't consider this an alternative for eating poorly.

The human body's solid waste is best cleared by proper eating habits. Foods, particularly fresh, leafy greens and vegetables and fruits(including the skin in some cases), contain a lot of fiber and these taken in clean, raw (or minimum cooked) form act as natural bowel cleansers. Processed food, fast food, overcooked food and sweets like cake and candy have very little of fiber content and dont facilitate easy passage of body waste through the colon.Red meat also contains very little of fiber. Drinking a lot of water, say 6 to 8 glasses per day, is also recommened to help smooth passage of fecal matter.
When one accumulates stools in his system, the clon's effectiveness in clearing the waste gets reduced, and uncleared stools remain in the colon. The result is constipation and also colon cancer if the condition is allowed to remain unattended. The colon passage gets weak and passage of hard stools may result in bleeding and the straining for passing the waste could also lead to piles.
When one is constipated, he feels lethargic as the body metabolism is affected and his thinking power also gets slower. One can also notice that the odor of the sweat changes from the normal one to the odor associated with feces. The malodor of ones breath becomes worse. Regular and complete bowel movement makes one more energetic and clear headed.
Use of bowel cleansers is not recommended except in critical cases as the body then depends upon the input of these for day to day evacuation of its solid waste.
One should attempt to restore the resilency of the human waste disposal system on a day to day basis by eating food that contains adequate quantity of fiber and reduce dependence on processed food and meat.

Yes colon cleansing is a good way of cleaning your colon. Try an herbal one though- you can see a local herbalist if you can find one. Or you can look on www.naturessunshine.com yourself. Just make sure and talk with a medical doctor before always trying anything new that effects your body. Aslo if you can talk with a herbalist they can show you other herbs that'll help within that period of time while you're on the cleanse, if you have any troubles.
Sometimes when people don't eat right and take care of their bodies (including me)- we get so many toxins within our bodies - it's hard to get rid of them all in just a short period of time as the cleanses allow you. Other herbs along with the cleanse will help in that- by breaking things down more so, etc.
Other than that be sure to take a fiber capsule or fibrous foods and drink plently of water with them- to take care of your body thereafter! Good Luck

Yes it is true. The average person carries 9-12 lbs of fecal matter in their colon. Fecal matter caused you to be tired and can carry all types of illnesses. When you use a good cleanse it will clean the fecal matter out of you colon and give you a lot of energy. Check out this website for more information: www.thedetoxlife.com
