She has caught him many times with the girl he loves. He needs her to help him pay for his rent. but just wants a platonic relationship. She will not allow him to see this girl that he loves and holds it over his head so that he is needy for her help. What do you think?

I would speculate she is a manipulator, not a psychologist. There are many professions in which a good many people practice and are not qualified.

She is leading a distorted life, by your account, and one cannot trust distortions. Her life is asymmetrical, imbalanced, which in turn cancels her qualifications as a psychologist. Unless, of course, this comes from one of those fictional "romance novels" existing or being written. . .

In that case, plough on, it's great.

To answer the question, yes, some psychologists have problems; it comes with being human. Psychiatrists- not all- are good at seeing life at a slant.

Yes... just because someone is a psychologist doesn't mean they can't have issues or actual disorders.

Some first year students are actually told that they might be taking up the study because they feel something might be wrong with themselves.

The reason they become psychologists is because they are trying to figure themselves out. At least that is what my mom said one of her professor's said when she was pursing her b.a. in psychology.
