To be honest, I didn't have anyone other than my husband.
I had my sister come over the day that my daughter and I came home, but I felt really good after the labor. I was slightly sore, and everything was ready at our home, so there was really no issue. My husband took 2 weeks of vacation from work, and I took 6 weeks of maturnity leave. Everything was slick, and we had a wonderful time during that time. I wouldn't give those times up for all the money in the world.

Besides my husband, I had my mother and my two sisters help when I needed it. I had c-sections with all three and REALLY needed it when my hubby was at work. I think it's absolutely fine to have outside help WHEN NEEDED or ASKED FOR. And as long as the help is welcomed by both the new Mom and Dad! Sometimes people can over step their boundaries and become intrusive! What's important is how do YOU feel about it? Do you have a newborn and an intrusive "helper"? If so, you may want to discuss with the new mom what boundaries you can set that will leave everyone enlightened and able to enjoy the new arrival.

I am 35 weeks pregnant right now. My parents don't live in the same city as I do, but my mom is planning on coming out for about 4 weeks or so after the baby is born to help out. This is my first child, and since I've never really been around newborns, I'm looking forward to all the help I can get.

My mother was a lifesaver, not after the baby was born but while I was pregnant. I had a really hard pregnancy and she gave me unconditional support and constant reassurance. We didn't really need much help after our daughter was born but that didn't stop her from offering. My aunt flew out to california (we live on the east coast) and stayed with my cousin for almost 2 months when she was pregnant with her last child because she was on bed-rest with a 2 year old. I'm pretty sure that that's impossible though LOL. I really think that family is so important in everything that happens.

I actually had no one. I am a first time mom, and single.
It was good because I had to learn really quick how to care for my son totally alone, without ever getting a break. However, there have been several times that I wish I had someone to help me.
Oh, my parents are both gone and have been since I was 16. I don't have relatives to help either so those were never options.

My Mom and MIL helped me. It was nice. I got to catch on some sleep. The housework could get done and I got used to taking care of New Baby. Take the help while people are offering it.

I had my grandmother with me for 2 weeks after my son was born by c-section. She was 75 then and loved every minute of it!
