It just started today, but her right hind leg will limp sometimes and she's running sort of funny (like her right hind leg is somehow bothering her). She does NOT seem to be in pain when I press it or massage the area, but she seems reluctant to walk on the aforementioned leg. She picks it up in the air and just keeps it there so she walks on 3 legs instead of 4. Could it be hip dysplasia? She's a 3-year-old Miniature Pinscher and I hear that they are very prone to stuff like hip problems.

I've already checked for something that might be stuck in her paw and that doesn't seem to be the case.

OK, something else I have noticed. The leg she is limping on is the same leg that has this hard little bump on it (located on her flank). The bump doesn't seem to hurt her either, but I can't but wonder if they might be connected.

It's definately possible, though without taking her to the vet for X-rays there's no reason to know for sure. We have a cocker spaniel who's alot older (7ish) and sometimes he has problems with his legs as well... like for some reason the weather change effects him in the wrong way and he just starts limping (when it's bad he can't even get up the two steps from the patio into the house ). The vet checked him over thourougly and then sent us to a specialist and couldnt find anything wrong, so when he has problems we have special pain killers for him.

Bottom line, it could be any number of things and from the way you're describing it, it sounds more like leg problems than hip problems. Only a vet's gunna know for sure and you should probably get her in as soon as possible. Good luck!

There are so many things that could be bothering your dog, you need to take him to the Vet. It could be something far worse than hip dysplasia. He is suffering now & you should have had him to the Vet already. We cannot manipulate the joint to see if it is the hip or if it is his back or if it is both plus some internal stuff. I had a Lab that went lame but I didn't pay much attention to him cause the day before I found a friend dead in his apartment & my mind & heart was being torn apart. On the third day I took him to the Vet. His liver was inlarged & there was no treatment. He hadn't shown any signs or symptoms except for just laying around & not responding to the other dogs or me. I had to have him put to sleep. I lost a friend of 35 yrs & three days latter I lost my 13 yr. old dog. I was a basket case. Your dog needs to see a Vet ASAP.

Min Pins are not prone to hip displasia and that does not sound like it. I have a dog with it and his symptoms are pain and limping and stepping short on one side. He has never not put weight on on foot. Or walked on three legs.
Your pet may have torn a crucieate ligament or ahve ALC problems. Toy breeds also have luxating patella issues.
YOur best bet it to get her into the vet and have them take a look. It may require x-rays to see what is going on. Many of these things can be repaired with surgery and some physical therapy. But you need to know for sure what the trouble is.
Good luck.

Hip displasia is not so common in toy breeds but luxating(shifting) patella IS and any dog of any size can take out a cruciate and or pull a muscle (and all these things are more treatable than hip displasia). Its impossible to tell what over the internet- you need to see the vet with her.

You should visit the vet for an exam. Things to think about are hip dysplasia, cruciate strain/tear or patellar luxation.

Sounds like hip dysplasia and it worsens with age. Sometimes, the dog loses its ability to contol its bladder and bowel function. Get her checked by a reputable vet and make payments for the service rendered. Good luck.

I would keep her quiet over the next two or three days and if she's not better then, take her for an exam. If she has pain when you touch her leg or it becomes inflamed obviously you have a worse problem to worry about and should take her sooner.

Or it could be a cruiciate issue too. Go to the vet and they can check the drawers and maybe do an x-ray.

3 years seems mighty young for dysplasia.... let vet check...could be sprained from jumping or landing wrong.

Be Blessed!
