a. lets hook up sometime.. would be like a friend talking to a friend to hang out and chill some where..

b. hey baby we should hook up sometime.. is more like guy wanting to have a one night stand with you... not on bf and gf terms more like this is a one time only thing unless you want to make it more than that..

hook up means that you or this social group you have become a part of intends to have another social function at the time and place they mentioned.
the term hook up is used here as it would be if you were a truck driver. you would drive to a trailer and hook up to it and go,
or if it was a train all the cars would become hooked together and then travel along with each other.
don't worry that you missed out on one of the hip code words used by the social director. just put on a suitable outfit bring with you bit of money and enjoy the social outing . oh it will be very much a casual affair no need for high heels .

Hooking up could be getting together, making out, or getting sexual. You can also hook up cable or a video game but I don't think that's what your friends meant. The next time your friends use the phrase 'hook up' say. 'In what context? There are a few ways to hook up'. Then they won't be laughing at you. Oh, and just a quick ? 4 U: If they're your friends, why did they just laugh instead of giving you this valuable information?

Hooking up refers to the magical feeling a man has when after buying a new television set or DVD player, he brings it home and messing around with the wires until he finally get to put on a movie and be satisfied with his purchase.

Sometimes the term is used to describe this feeling in different contexts tho.

It started as such a "sexual thing" When somebody of the opposite sex asks you "if you want to hook up" it means sex. Now we try to use it as often as we can to remove the connotation of"sex" . It means just to hang-out,chill, be with friends. To "link -up" establish relationships again.

Most of the words that are coined by kids today has something to do with "asking for sex" a little subtle maybe coz of shyness or they know they have to develop a code so "the parents will not know they are screwing around or playing "hookey:":

For most people it means finding someone to go out with. There is a small group of people who are trying to change the meaning to finding someone to have sex with for just a one time affair.

You have to listen to how its being said and in what context to distinguish the common term from the sexual one.

If your friends know, and you don't, that is kind of wierd. If they dont tell u, thats not very nice. But it could mean a number of things- just make out, 1st base, 2nd base, 3rd base, or even home!
