You need an appointment to any of the military academies. This is that is usually relegated by your state representative. Your best bet is to send a letter to your state representative indicating your desire to attend the academy and why you believe that you are deserving of this appointment!

I would imagine that the politicians get the first appointments, because that's what these people do, they take care of themselves, first. If you're lucky and your representative takes a liking to you based on what you say in your letter. you just might have a chance.

As Hugo said, shoot for a scholarship at college. However, there is nothing to keep you from reapplying to the academy. I dont believe you are NOT suited for the academy by your very statements. The academy doesn't "challenge" you. It gets you to challenge yourself. From the sounds of things, you are not challenging yourself where you are. Yes, the finances and such are a struggle and a challenge, but the AFA is about mental focus. If you were officer material, you should be able to rise above your environment and focus on you and your studies and not what others around you SEEM to be doing. They are not your concern. You also did not adapt to the fact that you were denied entry to AFA and worked on a different route. Your goal should have been to blow away your instructors in ROTC with yor attitude and your grades and apply for a scholarship before the end of your sopomore year. I mean, your goal is to become an ar force officer right? The academy is not the only avenue. The academy is just a doorway to other things. The education is just the tip of the iceberg.

You can go to the US Air Force Academy right out of high school. There is a prep school, but it is unnecessary-I think it is for those who tried the first time but didnt get in. I applied to the Air Force Academy and would have gotten in if I wasnt medically disqualified for asthma. If you are a junior-apply to the Air Force Academy Summer Seminar now. I did and not only was it a good experience but it looked good for me to get in because of it. If you are a senior, go ahead and write to your senators and congressman now! They usually hold competitivie meetings and conferences to see who they want to grant the nomination to. I recieved both Senator Burr's and Congresswoman Foxx's nominations, but had to go through a process to do it. There is also a lot of paperwork you need to do as soon as possible, the later you do it, the less of a chance you'll get in. There are deadlines. So, this is the stuff you have to do to get in.
