You do not instantly die just because the appendix burst. It's not a choice condition, but it isn't necessarily fatal. The surgeon who removes the appendix will wash the abdominal cavity to remove as much of the bacteria and contents as possible, and then post operatively the patient is given IV antibiotics. While it does mean you will feel positively deathlike for a good week afterwards, you will recover. You friend likely isn't going to die, but she will not feel really good for a while yet. You can help her most by not acting like you expect her to croak, or treating her that way. She isn't going to die. Visit her, take her the usual magazines and good gossip. When she can eat a bit better, take her some chocolates. Encourage her to get up and move around, as that will help her recover faster. In short, be a good friend, and relax- she's going to be your friend for a while longer.

you do NOT instantly die if your appendix bursts. you require immediate emergency surgery if your appendix bursts to remove the tainted flesh and infectios materials. and just be there for her. comfort her and tell her that she's going to be alright, hang out with her and chat like you normally would. normality is going to keep her calm, because then its like she isnt in the hospital.
