I hate to say it, but its genetic. If your parents can do it, then you should be able to. If only one can, you might not be able to get any better, if neither can do it...then consider yourself lucky that you can do it a little.

Complaining approximately rolling R's is simply laziness. Or delight. Whichever suits. Don't fear approximately sounding like a dork, simply make the noise. It's now not difficult. Suck it up. Just do it. In the vast majority of nations in this earth, men and women roll their R's. Even when you attempted to wuss out and decide upon a further language, you'll nonetheless turn out to be going through this ridiculous main issue.

If you can roll your R's a little you are ok. I'm from Puerto Rico and it's still difficult for us to roll the R's. When you say the letter R try to tickle your palate you need to feel a vibration in your mouth... Try to remember the singer Gerardo singing the Song "Rico, Suave" and try to say RRRRRico" the way he does it. If you dont know who Gerardo is find a latinamerican who does and ask for the song. THis would help a lot.

Rolling your r's is not a genetic trait, it's a language skill. It comes from (possible) years of practice. We had drills that helped hone our rolls. Californians in general roll or pronounce our r's more than other people in the US. In my southwestern city, reporters are strongly encouraged to roll their r's when pronouncing Spanish names and words.
I have seen Spanish speaking toddlers unable to roll their r's which confirms my experience that it's a learned skill.
"r con r cigarro, r con r carril, qué rápido corren los carros del ferrocarril"
Try that for a while and speed up.

make machine-gun (or helicopter) noises basically by rolling my tongue. When I started learning Spanish, I was glad I had had this practice. Maybe you should try imitating a machine gun

Coat the R's in flour so that the Spanish sticks to them better.

just need to practice, I remember when i was like 5 i still couldn't pronounce my R's, but I remember just practicing how to say dog... after a while i got it. What i do know is that you have to have your tongue kinda lose, you can't make it tense... then it will flap kinda loosely in your palette--- g'luck.

If you find a way, please let me know. This drives me nuts...I know Spanish pretty well, but can't speak that well. I have heard other people do it with no problem, but I can't even come close.
