And then, 45 seconds later, they are flagging the waiter down because they "NEED" something?? Oh, say, Ma'am...can I get a refill?? Can I get an extra side of ranch? Can I get a babysitter for my screaming child??
What the heck is up with THAT?

I would NEVER ask someone to be on my timetable. But, there is an ebb and a flow to this thing. And part of it has to do with paying attention when someone asks you a question. If a waiter is busy, and someone keeps on doing this sort of thing, it wrecks it for the other customers. AND there are times when you kinda hafta interrupt a conversation. Like ..."Ma'am, could you move your gynormous purse and your vacation photos before I burn my fingerprints off, so I can set down your 6 pounds of steaming hot veal?"

Come on, people. You know the server is at your mercy. You know that there is nothing I want more than for you to be happy. All I ask is that if I come to your table and say "Is there anything I can grab for ya?", for you to think about that for a second, and then answer. I am not a mind reader. I can predetermine some stuff..like if the bread basket is low or if you need a refill, but you are going to have to communicate some stuff. You just have to. Sorry.

There's nothing more annoying than a hovering server. People go to dinner to relax, to have meetings, or for a hundred other purposes that are NOT the server's business. They pay good money to have a little space. They also pay good money for the server to be attentive, but discreet; if the server has to get something for the patron, isn't that his/her JOB???

It's because the waiters/waitresses always seem to come by when your mouth is stuffed with food so you can't talk, so they think they've gotten away with it. I'm not saying that all waiters/waitresses are like this, they work hard, they work their butts off, but I have had my fair share of bad service.

probably because the waiter asking them questions when they have their mouth full...it is a restaurant..ppl are there to eat..also the waiter should bring them what they want when THEY want it , not when it is convenient for the waiter. the customer is the one getting service they shouldn't have to be on the waiters timetable.

Yup, from what I see, SOME people are like that. But most are much more considerate, generally.

Generally, the "waitperson" butts into the conversation the customer is having which is totally rude.
