I have a very good friend who is a born-again christian. I have tried to attend church with her, but I do not feel I fit in there. I do believe in God and I do pray and live a good life. I have a baby boy who just turned a year old. I told her I am taking him to get his picture with Santa and she freaked out. She got so upset and said "what are you teaching your child". She says to tell him that it is the time we celebrate Jesus coming into the world. He will have Santa and gifts and a tree and that is that. Why would this upset her so much. She also freaked out when I put a halloween costume on him. I don't get this. Let kids be kids. Any thoughts on this??

your friend is a born again extremist...soon she'll be bombing medical centres and protesting the teachings of science in schools.....ignore her move on and take your kid to see santa.

And you are worrying about this for what reason? I believe that one should respect the religious beliefs of another -- and also the cultural practices of another as well.

Do what makes you comfortable -- and for children ... well, a year is a bit young for santa -- but the precious picture of the child with Santa Claus on his 1st Christmas -- well that is something that most parents do -- whether they are "Born-Again" or just plain "Christian" or other faiths -- and kids will be kids.

I don't see the problem with dressing up either for Halloween -- in fact, I live rurally in the South (many churches in my town), and the way this is handled is to have a FALL FESTIVAL downtown near the Halloween day -- and all the residents can get dressed up, go downtown, participate in Costume Contests and simple games -- a good time is had by all, and in no way does this violate the tenants of any faith in the town.

Most born again people take the religous beliefs far more seriously then anyone actually in the religion from when they were young why this is I have no idea but she probably is against santa because christmas actually about the birth of christ and santa is a made up character that many people put together with christmas rather then christ

as for Halloween its a holiday for celebrating devil worship or so some say so thats really against her religious beliefs shes taking it far more serious then most people heck even my priest gives out candy to kids on halloween even to kids dressed as the devil

I'm a Christian and I don't see any problem with Santa. Kids love him! Anyhow, your boy'll probably love his picture with Santa. I think hating Santa is just going a bit too far. Why take Santa out of Christmas? As long as we understand the real reason for the season, I think it's fine. It's not like Santa's a God or anything - just a likeable character!

Some Christians think that Christmas should be a wholly holy holiday and Santa Claus should no longer be a part of Christian celebrations because he "takes the focus of Christmas away from Jesus." It's a fair point with which I personally don't agree.

Let your friend have her belief--she has a right to it,--but you are the mother of your child. Do what you think is right. Lots of faithful Christians manage to enjoy both the religious and secular aspects of Christmas without any conflict.

People tend to misunderstand that childhoods are a necessity for a child growing up well!!!!! Santa Claus and Trick or Treating all come with the territory.

Don't sweat it. You do what you think is right, and don't let anybody else tell you how you should raise your child!

Let them be young and enjoy all the small things before they get too old and join the "real world".

dont listen to her, she should support you as a friend. u are right, let kids be kids. taking away a childs "childhood" can cause much more psychological damage then not.

u can also tell her christmas was derived from a pagan holliday, and that any biblical scholar knows christ was not born anytime in december or january.

dont take away the fun of being a kid. kids need that, they are only a kid for a short amount of time, might as well let them enjoy it before they get old and cant enjoy that kind of stuff.

shame on your friend,
ur more then welcome to email me if u have any further questions.

Raise your child as you see fit. I didn't teach my children to believe in Santa but I will not put down anyone who does.

You might considering asking your friend what she is teaching you by being so judgemental.

your friend is doing this because she cares irregardless of how it is coming across to you-she probably feels you are crossing a line between God and pagan things-- you are your own person and can do as you like- she should know this. but if you need something to go on--- go to www.israelnet.tv click on programs- then on truth or tradition by M.Rood and listen carefully- approx 30min and FREE. but remember your friend really thinks what she is doing is right (not saying she is) but you can just smile and tell her your doing it your way.

Unfortunity there are some really stupid and niave christians that give the rest of us christians a bad name. Sounds like she needs to spend more time actually researching her faith as well as relating to the human race.. and less time thinking everything is black and white.
