At some point in a man's life he must decide if he's going to pick a partner and have kids or play the field forever...it may seem shallow to you, but, in reality, the younger a girl has less baggage and desperation there is. Most women his age are probably trying to get married, most for the 2nd or 3rd time, and have a kid before they get to old...your friend isn't looking for that at all, he's probably set finical and has the security of knowing who he is and what he wants...he's lookin for someone to have a good time with, and like most 23 year old girls, she just looking to have a good time with a mature person who will treat her right...that's why it works...it's not being shallow...it's being honest.
Plus...when was the last time you talked with a 23 year old? They are way smarter then i was at 23...men and women...maybe your shallow or just don't see what a perfect match that is.

The only way I can answer this question is by sharing my current situation. I am a 39 year old man, and am totally infatuated with a 23 year old woman. First thing about this woman that I liked was definately her looks; and I still am extremely physically attracted to her. However, asside from her obviously attractive physical features, I have become mostly attracted to her energy and youthful exuberance. For me, that is the thing that I need right now. Now this woman is by no means a strikingly gorgeous, model looking person, but their seems to be an aura of liveliness surrounding her that everyone notices. This energy that she radiates is something that makes me feel realy special to be around. I'm not sure what she finds so attractive about me . However, I sure hope I make her feel as special as she makes me feel. By the way, we have not had sex or even kissed yet, and I think my age turns her off.... but there is always hope for me.

Not all men are the way this one seems to be.
I think if you don't have anything in common, or aren't in the same places in your life, then it's doomed.
I married my husband when I was 21 and he was 29. I'm 25 now and he's 33. We have a family, and both have careers, and life is good.
I think 23 and 33 COULD possibly work out. It really just depends on the people and situations and maturity levels.
And, sometimes, it's just the guy wanting a young thing hanging around.

I think sometimes, when a boy goes through high school, fantasizing about one of the cheerleaders, but never getting any, he ends up as an older man, who has never gotten over what he wasn't getting in high school. Now, I have more money, and drive a nice car. Now, I can go back and get that cheer leader.
Other men, such as myself, have more practical reasons for preferring younger women. A woman my age is too old to have a baby.

my bf is way older than me and well he has a history of dating younger women never this young but younger .....hes always said that they pursued him which i kinda believe. as for me it was a mutual thing ive always hung out with older crowds and loved older men, yes like my friends say saggy balls and all(which isnt true:p). now our age difference isnt felt much since i am too mature for my age and hes bottom line NOT. only problem i have always seen in dating older guys is their baggage and god knows they have lived alot and screwed alot. one advantage of older men is they know how to treat you and most hold you up in a pedestal without overdoing it which i have yet to hear a complaint for getting attention from any woman. now ive based all on the fact that the woman is mature because in the long run men will get tired of little girls

Hugh Hiefner said it was their energy. Young women have a lot of energy and it makes the older person who maybe not so excited about life get back into living. Or something.

apart from the young skin
& a fear of old age
some men want to feel young for as long as they can & they fool themselves into thinking because a young girl likes him he must be young also
& he will keep dating young women until they think he is just an old man with wrinkled skin & with no money

Honestly, I think its mainly looks. I couln't think of another possible reason. Maybe they also like them as a person, but they love the young look and thats what made them attracted to them.

I think part of it is also that it makes themselves feel younger also.Looks are probably a big factor but being around younger people makes you feel that way too sometimes. Some people are scared to get old.
