He may have something stuck in his throat, I would look in his throat and see if there is anything there. If not, I would call the vet.

Sure sound's like the dog grabbed a toad in it's mouth! The dog's mouth will foam like crazy! See if there's a phone number to the Animal Shelter in your community. They may be able to answer about what to do. I'm thinking a small bowl of milk to neutralize the acid from the toad, and plenty of fresh water. Has he been loose in the neighborhood? If so, do you think anyone would do him any harm? Set something out that may not be good for him? Is there any type of mouse or rat poison, set out that he could have gotten into? See if the SPCA has a number to call,(Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). Perhaps they can lead you to some info, and/or call your local vet, see if their is an emergency number. Perhaps the local pet stores have a number to call. Edit: Constantly coughing? Call the vet, now! Time may run-out.

This is a relatively serious problem. I hate just suggesting "Go to the vet" but due to the ammount of serious conditions this could be, that is exactly what I am going to tell you.

Go to the vet.

I suggest you phone your dogs vet and ask them their opinion.
They are trained in such matters and I am sure they will give you the information you need over the phone.
