I hurt him by walking away from him, when he was probably thinking everything is going well in our 6 year relationship. It shouldn’t have surprised him cause I have done this many many time.. And most of the time because it was all my fault and I would blame it on him. But recently we were doing okay and we were having a lots of fun...but I ended the relationship because he said a bad joke and after I realize it really was a joke...as always I said sorry and usually he would say nothing but we would be together again but now he is giving me the silent treatment. I really love him we have a lot of history together and a puppy..which he bought for me...I really want him back but he doesn’t give me the chance to tell him how I feel..How do I break his silent treatment?

I'm sorry to be the critic, but step back and look at your relationship. You broke up with him over a bad joke? You don't seem to be able to count the times you've broken up with him, and is this six years counting the time in between breaking up and getting back together? This relationship seems to have some problems that needed to be taken care of before this final step. Wait him out if you're willing to make some major changes, he might start talking to you again in a little while, but once again, you seem to be blaming something on him that is your fault.

You dumped him. It's up to him to decide if he wishes to speak to you again.

By your own admission you've done this to him "many, many times". What makes you think you have a right to continue doing this to him or any person for that matter? Perhaps he has gotten tired of your immature behaviour and your need for controlling the determination of the relationship.

Stick with the puppy he got you. No matter how badly you treat the dog, dogs will always come back for more. Not so humans.
