The third commandment, "Remember the Sabbath Day and keep it holy” teaches us to devote one day of the week to God and your family; and keep God’s day holy. Why is this an important message for today's world? and Why is this message a challenge to today's culture and values?

Hmm...it's important, in my eyes at least, to make a day that is free from work, to spend with your family and take time to reflect issues in your life and religon/spirituality.

Its a challenge because of the way the house is ran in todays society. I'm going to go OLD SKOOL on ya'll, so hang in there. Back when women stayed at home and the man went out worked, sundays were always a family day. The nice sunday dinner was made, a nice breakfast was made, church was attended, extended family was visited...notice a pattern here? FAMILY!!!

Now, since both mommy and daddy work, that doesn't happen. i think that sundays (or any sabbath, depending on your beliefs) are sacrificed in the name of the Feminist movement (don't get your panties in a bind girls, I am a WOMAN) Mom wants to work, wants to put HER things first, not her husbands, not her kids. So sunday is just that dreadful day before you have to go back to you dreadful job so that you can prove yourself.

okey..i'm off my soapbox now ;) but, on a side note, I am a stay at home mom, and sunday is the day me and my partner sit and talk about the future, where we go out and take our son for walks,. where I make a NICE dinner, at the table without the tv on or anything else. Where we just relax and unwind before starting another week...

Great question!

Sabbath day observance is the fourth commandment of God's Moral Law. Let's notice that it says "Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy". The word "the" indicates that God had a specific day in mind. He didn't say "a Sabbath day". Then, what day did God have in mind? If you read Exodus 20:8-11 it identifies the Seventh day as the Sabbath of the Lord. Look up at Genesis 2:1-3, where we can read when the Sabbath day was created. It makes sense when we know that it was created for mankind, since the only human beings were Adam and Eve. Jesus said that the Sabbath was made for men, and we can see it is true! Every time we dedicate the Sabbath to the Lord, by faith we're remembering the Creation week and recognizing Him as our Creator and Redeemer.

It is a challenge because the majority of people do not acknowledge the God who wrote this commandment. Even people who do profess a belief in Jesus struggle with this.

What the 3rd commandment is really about is giving the honor, praise, worship, blessing and devotion that God deserves for all He has done for us. And this is to be done on the first day with no distractions. This is what it is all about.

That's actually the 4th Commandment. Only the Catholic Church in their Catechism calls it the "3rd Commandment". That's because they removed the 2nd Commandment about not worshipping idols (for obvious reasons) and split the 10th Commandment in two. Ironically, the Catholic Bible (the New American Bible) says that the 4th Commandment is the Sabbath Commandment. So, they are lying to everyone.

Revelation 14:9-11—
9 And the third malak followed them, saying with a loud voice: If any man worships the beast and his likeness, and receives his mark in his forehead or upon his hand,
10 The same will mourn, and they will tremble at the justice of Yahweh; for they rejected Yahweh and they rushed after gods (elohim). They will mourn, for they acted defiantly against Yahweh, and it was decided before the holy malakim and the Lamb that they were surely guilty of this sin.
11 And the smoke of their torment ascends up forever and ever. And they have no Sabbath night and day, who worship the beast and his likeness, and whoever receives the mark of his name.

Sab·bath (sbth)
n.
1. The seventh day of the week, Saturday, observed as the day of rest.

Yahweh’s Sabbaths--Yahweh’s Mark
Yes, the Scriptures speak of MORE THAN ONE SABBATH, which must be observed by those who want to know Yahweh. Let us first read of Yahweh’s Weekly Seventh Day Sabbath in:

Exodus 31:13-17--
13 Speak also to the children of Israyl, saying; SURELY MY SABBATHS YOU SHALL KEEP, FOR IT IS A SIGN BETWEEN ME AND YOU THROUGHOUT YOUR GENERATIONS, that you may know that I am Yahweh Who sanctifies you, and makes you holy.
14 You shall keep the Sabbath, therefore, for it is holy to you. Everyone who profanes it shall surely be put to death; for whoever does any work on that day, that person shall be cut off from among his people.
15 For six days work shall be done, but THE SEVENTH DAY IS THE SABBATH OF REST, HOLY TO YAHWEH. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath Day, he shall surely be put to death.
16 Therefore the children of Israyl shall keep the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath throughout their generations as A PERPETUAL COVENANT.
17 IT IS A SIGN between Me and the children of Israyl FOREVER, for in six days Yahweh made the heavens and the earth, and on the Seventh Day He rested and was refreshed.

Hebrews chapter 4 shows that the sabbath for christians is the freedom or resting of works.

We as christians no longer have to obey the law, including the 10 Commandments to gain salvation.

We rest from works of law. so our sabbath is every day.

Today's culture is anti God, it is like the air we breath that comes from Satan's world of ungodly.

Thus we get wrapped up in doing things that a not pleasing to God.

It used to be easier, nothing was open so you HAD to stay home lol.

But it is hard in this day and age of soccer games on Sunday and classes and such to make that one day holy and rest. It is so important to us as human beings to have that time off to "reboot" if you will.

God created the whole universe and everything in it, and He rested the seventh day. He did not need to rest. He just wanted to show us example.

Todays life is very busy. We hardly have anytime for God.

in accordance to Exodus 34, the third commandment is, "The dinner occasion of unleavened bread shalt thou shop." The commandments in Ex 34 are the sole ones that the Bible calls "the ten Commandments."
