ok, I'm only 14 but I'm sure I want to go into the coast guard when I'm 17. I was woundering what I could do now that would help prepare me to get into the CG. Do they teach you all you need to know in training? If I make my recruiter (in a few years) put where I want to be stationed in the contract, will I be promised that that station?

Any helpful information will be appreciated! Thanks

Do you have to run a lot in training?

Start by getting into shape, if you aren't already, and hone your swimming skills. No the recruiter cannot guarantee you a definite duty station, or even a certain MOS. The needs of the Coast Guard come first ahead of everything else, just like the other branches of the armed forces.

Practice swimming definently. Also get to know your Coast Guard Information (history etc.). Theres a few test that you will have to take, such as swim tests, PT tests, histroy and coast guard knowledge tests. Bootcamp is tough, however if you go in with a mind set on completion, you will do fine. Don't be intimidated its only a mind game. And its only "Eight Weeks!"

learn to swim sail and get plenty of exercise You can make a request for where to be stationed but due to where you apply basically puts you in a specific station location until you get afew years under your belt then you can request a new location

yes they teach you all you need to know but having a basic knowledge of sailing swimming and being in good health is VERY helpful knowing your knots helps too
