You can only take care of yourself. If you like both sides, enjoy that. You may become stuck between a rock and a hard place listening to both sides. Figure it out and host a 4th of July barbque and invite them all to your house.

I understand your dilemma but you might think of it this way. If they were invited and went to the gathering what would happen? Is there so much animosity that there could be conflict. They may be trying to just avoid any type of conflict and have a nice family gathering. Try to look at all sides. I agree people should let things go for the holidays but.. you as one person can not control what others do. Every single person at the gathering would have to feel the same way and let go of some bad memories. Every one is not willing to do that.

I guess it depends why they were never invited. Was it something that happened or just not getting along? It is not always easy to figure things out. I think the best is if everyone has a good time then maybe that will help. Maybe bring some games, that always helps when people are a bit uncomfortable and don't know what to say.

You know what. I know what you mean. I will tell you that it is the holiday season and all but I used to go to my moms and every year it ended up bein a mess with fussing with my sisters or something. Then started going to the in laws same thing. The last two years I do my own Thanksgiving, Christmas dinner etc.. with just my husband and kids. We have it our way and it is much more peaceful!

I think you should sit your family down and have a talk with them. Find out why they don't like this part of thier family and let them see how immature they're being. They need to growup and learn how give, share, and love ALL of their family, espicially on Christmas.

Talk it through with your family about how you feel about it and just maybe they'll respond as you would wish.
