If the democrats have their way, then yes it will. We should leave the troops where they are until the job is done. Then those who have died won't have died in vain.

The only parallel between Iraq and Vietnam is that in both cases the choice to win or lose is ours. There will be no peace treaty, because there is nobody with whom to sign one. By the way, the U.S. left South Vietnam for all intents and purposes in 1972 but Saigon didn't fall to the NVA until Congress cut off military funding to South Vietnam in 1975. We have about 150,000 personnel in Iraq compared to a peak of about 550,000 in Vietnam, and where you hear of a tragic two or eight soldiers killed on the news now, we heard of 120 this week or 110 that week in Vietnam. Our troops are taking casualties now from what can be thought of as two separate conflicts. In one, there are those who are anti-American. In the other, there are Sunnis fighting Shiites, and our troops are caught in collateral damage, just as many Iraqi civilians are. We aren't getting reports that let us tell how much relative danger these two impose relative to each other, and I think it would be easier to judge the situation if we had some idea, but I'd say it's far from a deadlock. If the infighting between the two religious groups can be quelled by a strengthening of the Iraqi government, perhaps in the next two years, it's my guess that the strictly anti-American fighters will be found to be a relatively small group and without the sectarian fighting to mask their activity will find it difficult to sustain operations.

From a Canadian stand.point even the fact the U.S went INTO Iraq made it into another Vietnam. The U.S has no business interfering in other countries affairs, Treaty of Westphalia anyone? They found no WMD's and if the U.S hadn't interfered with other countries in the first place there would be no Al-Quida. for them to root out...hell they made it. And no there will be no peace treaty. The government they have set up will be run by the oil companies eventually and then they will simply pull out allowing the country to descend into anarchy because that is the natural tendency of democracy.

What do mean you mean "Become" ?
Your politicians are frantically searching for a way to get out of (yet another) war that they started but cant win. The rest of the world condemned it, international law prohibitted it, your own supreme court condemned it.
And all for oil.
19 of the 911 hijackers were SAUDIS, so naturally you went to war with afghanistan and Iraq......what a surprise, and WHAT a failure.
Youve lost what little respect the rest of the world had for you, youve lost most of your civil rights and liberties and youve created millions of potential terrorists who want vengance for the hideous crimes you have committed against them.
I feel sorry for the families of the just under 3000 troops that died, and even more sorry for the families of the 40000 plus people killed by those troops.
Still war is good for business, so no doubt once youve run away with your tails between your legs youll be able sell loads of guns and bombs to both sides in the civil war that you started
Good job guys.

there is also a big difference between that war (or as some people call it, the conflict, which is wrong, it was war) and Vietnam, back then the support for the action over there was, to say the least, not favorable. the troops overseas and here in the U.S. have a lot of support. and with the memory of 9/11 still in everyones mind, we want the people responsible brought to Justice.

Keep in mind that it was the Left(democrats) in the United States that lost the war in Vietnam(anti-War demonstrations, etc all instigated by the left).. I was in Vietnam for 12 years as a civilian and I knew what was going on there better than ANYONE ELSE and if it was not for anti-Americans in the U.S.(i.e. Jane Fonda and ALL the crappy people like her), the US would have won easily but because of the radical, un-American left, we lost.. The same in Iraq. The U.S. could win but because of the Nancy Palosi's, Henri Reids, Kennedys, and all of the other terrorist sympathizers in the U.S., the U.S. will NEVER NEVER win.. just like Vietnam.. If I was a dictator here in the U.S., I would(without a blink of the eye) over night eradicate all of that group of terrorist loving Americans

The main problem with this war is that it is more a family affair than anything else. W. Bush wanted to finish what his dad started but could finish. And also manipulating proofs was a big mistake.

Today Bush is cornered because if he withdraw now it will be seen as a weakness for not bringing democratie as he wanted. And he can't always stay deaf to the Americans who wants this massacre to stop.

As a French, I must say that the US made fun of us for not supporting them, but when I see the result I'm glad we were out of it. Because the anti US feeling has rised in the middle-east. And Bush keeps saying that the world is safer now. I highly doubt that.

Probably. Most people are calling for an end to it. Of course that would play into the hands of Bin Laden & all the others who want to take over that part of the world but we are losing a lot of young people there so I guess there is something to be said for both lines of thought.

There is no peace treaty to sign...

It is impossible to have another Viet Nam... They are incomparable with one another. It is worth the lives of the men and women over there to finish the job, as it was worth mine when I was there.

There will be no reason to be concerned with global warming if terrorists kill us all first...
