I'm new to ties (and slurs, etc.) so trying to compose this peice which has a lot of ties in it is proving to be difficult.

Here is one measure

Is this right? I want to hold that first E throughout the entire measure, but come in with the G after half a note and hold that for the entire measure, but come in with the B half a note after the G, and hold that triad until the end of that measure.

I would recommend downloading a program like finale or Sibelius that will make it a thousand times easier to write out music. They are free to download and pretty easy to use.

The way you wrote it is correct. You're basically asking for an arpeggiation of an e minor triad stacked in thirds, in 3/4, on eighth notes. That's exactly how you would notate it, it's very clear for a performer.

I would write another E underneath the G and tie it over. I usually find that clearer.
