You have not misunderstood.
But there are three positions that Christians take concerning "when" the church will be raptured.
Pre-tribulation rapture
Mid-tribulation rapture
Post-tribulation rapture.
Different denominations teach different positions.
Personally, I'm with you, looking forward to being out of here prior to all the bad stuff beginning.

I don't think so.........God promises to be with us through the bad times. God allowed three men to be thrown into a burning furnace, but wasn't He right there with them? God allowed Daniel to be thrown into a den of lions, but didn't He send an angel to close the lions mouths? God does not save us from trial completely, He just promises that we will not face them alone. Revelation 3:10 refers to the "hour of trial" in which God people will be spared from. This verse, as many people interpret it, is not insinuating that God will keep us from any kind of trial. It actually means that He will not give us more than we can handle and will provide the strength we need to get through the rough times. I've actually been doing a study on this very question and I have found that the Bible is more consistent with the idea that we will have to bear some of the tribulation, but God will be there for us always.

No, i don't have self belief that. it is named "pre-trib" concept, which became began by using the Catholic Church in the course of the Counter-Reformation by using 2 Jesuit monks. The Bible supplies sufficient information that the kept will be raptured AFTER the tribulation. I carry to what's named "put up-trib" concept. in case you check out countless OT thoughts, you'll locate that God did not keep Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego FROM the fiery furnace, He kept them by using it. God did not keep Daniel FROM the lion's den, He kept him by using it. God did not keep John the Revelator FROM being boiled in oil, He kept him by using it. (He got here by using unscathed.) Likewise, God's end-time human beings is only no longer kept FROM tribulation, yet they are going to be kept by using it. In different words, they ought to pass by using the tribulation uninjured so as that each human being can see that they fairly are God's human beings.

You have bought into nonsense, un-scriptural and unheard of in all of Christianity for the first 1850 years.
The idea was made up by a failed Anglican clergyman who headed the Plymouth Brethren....and were considered a cult even then.
How this silly idea spread into modern American Protestant thought, I have no idea.

No. They are in the tribulation for a while. But God does not keep them in longer than they can bear.
