It was my understanding that "baptist" referred to a baptist person (just like there is anglicans, evangelicals, etc.)

For those curious: I've "been" a baptist since birth, and I attended a Baptist church for many years with my dad in my home town.
When my parents got divorced and I moved, I didn't attend church after that, it's just that my family (for whatever reason) never thought to get me (or my siblings) baptised. I'm still a child (16), but still, it's been bugging me..

Never baptized -- is this a denial of your infant baptism, or have you only recently come to believe in Christianity & Arminian theology? If you were baptized as an infant, the Reformed/Presbyterian crowd will say you're getting wet with any re-baptism. If you have not been baptized at all in the past the Baptists will encourage you to be baptized as a statement of your faith, and the Reformed/Presbyterians will attach a different meaning to it and say it's about time.

the reason why people choose to be baptized it to make a public admittence that they know right from wrong and they are going to do the right things from then on. Being baptized also means your past sins and transgrations have been erased and you have a fresh start to do what is right. If you have not been baptized you are still considered a baby Christian because you don't know right from wrong yet. You can call yourself a baptist however I don't think that you can become a member of your church unless you have been baptized. We are save by our faith in Jesus Christ and not by our actions. Christian means Christ follower, so if you truely are a Christ follower wouldn't you want to do what Jesus did? Jesus was baptized and He wished for all of us to do the same.

If you have repented of your sins - aknowledging that you cannot save yourself, and in sincere admission ask forgiveness of your sins from God - He gave us the obedience test to save us from eternal separation from God, that is to receive His Son Jesus
Christ as our Saviour - meaning we believe that He died on the Cross to pay for all our sins - and was buried - and that He resurrected from the death on the third day - which gives us similar hope that we will also be raised from the death to live forever in Heaven.
Remember that Adam and Eve brought us all humans death
through their disobedience, and so the obedience that comes by believing in Christ give us Eternal Live.
When we receive Christ , he gives us a new heart which unlike
our old sinful heart can now be the temple of the Holy Spirit,
which now allows us to worship Christ in our own hearts.
The Bible calls this process as being Born Again. Our names are
now written in the Book of Life and assures us Eternal Life.
The Bible calls this Baptism. At the same time Christ went into the River Jordan as an Obedience to His Father and was baptized, so also we do the same to signify that our sins have been washed away by the blood of Christ , and we are buried and resurrected just like Christ.
The main message is you are saved by receivng Christ as your Saviour. Baptism opens your eyes to the Biblical message of Death and Resurrection - which now make you understand
the Bible more clearly using this message as the KEY.
Remember the Ten Commandments - they are there to point
out to us what constitutes Sin so that we cannot say we never sinned. The Bible says that even a small dot of Sin can prevent
us from entering the Presence of God. That is where Jesus
comes in to cover our sins so God will be able to see us as sinless.
Important point , the Bible says just contemplating in your heart
with some Evil deed already constitutes Sin.
It is not being called a Baptist that saves you, it is trusting your Creator God and His Salvation Plan for all humankind, and trusting completely in His Son Jesus Christ as your personal
Saviour that brings about your Baptism that truly saves you.
Reminder "Seek ye God while He may be found".

If you want to follow Jesus, you should get baptized if you have put your faith in Him.
In the Beginning God created heavens and earth.
God gives you air to breathe and sunshine to enjoy.
God gives you water to drink and food to eat.
God gives you a wonderful body and sound mind, to live.
God loves you, and you are precious to Him.
Son of God died on the Cross to save us from condemnation.
Jesus’ love is boundless and everlasting.
We have the hope of Heaven through Jesus.
Life therefore has fantastic and glorious future!
(Digestion of above can even prevent depression and suicidal thoughts.)

No. You can't actually even call yourself a Christian or "Born Again" by water and the Spirit, either.
