I'm on your side but Christmas time is not the best time to get a puppy. There is too much going on and from what I hear the dogs may not in the best of health if they are from a store. If it is really important to you and it sounds like it is. It might be best to put some more thought into it and decide just what type of dog fits your family's personality and vice versa. Look up on-line to learn everything you can. Good Luck!

Well, to be your companion and friend. But your parents may have real reasons for being concerned. Do you live in an apartment? Puppies might not be allowed, or you might have to walk him/her a lot.
You might want a smaller, quieter breed or a calm breed like a golden retriever. They might not like a lab or some really active dog that constantly tears up stuff.
It's also a responsibility - you have to pay the vet for shots and you have to feed and water it and walk it and clean up after it.
Are you ready for all that? Dogs are fun, but you have to be their "parent" too. You will have to do some yucky stuff. If you're okay with that, then go for it.
Also consider adopting one from the humane society - one that needs a home - rather than buying one from a pet store.

Companionship is what you can hit them with. Tell them you're lonely a lot at home or at night and you would feel better if there was something their to love you unconditionally. You're really going to have to sell that crap because your parents know they'll be paying all the vet bills, upkeep, having it fixed (which helps to keep the dog from roaming) dog food, collars, tags. They'll also have to take care of it when you get bored with it. Walk it, clean up after it, deal with the shedding. Are you going to college? Dogs live a long time. You can't take him with you to a dorm or an apartment. They know you'll bat your big beautiful eyes at them and promise on your life to take care of him which will last up to when the first steamy pile hits the carpet. You'll need to convince them that you've thought things through. Good Luck

One thing you need to understand first is that to get a dog you need to be mature enough to take care of it. This animal will be dependent on you not only for food shelter and toileting, but it will need you to train it as well. You have to show it everything. Where it can pee and poop, where it can sleep, when you can play, what areas it is not allowed in(bathroom, furniture). A puppy requires loads of attention and if you can't be there to give it you should wait. Wait till summer when you're not in school all day or participating in activities.

The best reason to have a puppy is because you know how to care for it, you can afford to care for it, you have money saved in case of an emergency, you have a lot of time and love for one and you own your own home so no one needs to be convinced.

How old are you? will you take complete care of your dog, poop, feeding, medicines, payment at the vet, taking care of sicknesses, up in the middle of night when necessary, buying its toys, food, bedding. will you take it for outings to the parks, walks, with you to friends' homes? If you are ready for a child like creature and don't want you parents to have to life a finger for the puppy then you are ready. If however, your parents also want a dog, it can be your's and they can help with it care. The reason I have dogs is LOVE, LOVE, and more LOVE. they are entertaining, companionship, someone to chat with, take for walks and exercise, take to lunch, take to the dog park, dress up in clothes, and simply enjoy. Good luck in getting a puppy.

theres not really a good reason (that i can think of) to have a puppy. expect the fact that after they go through the awful aggrivating puppy fase they turn into wonderful, loyal, smart (etc.) dogs. i love my dog but the puppy part sucks
