Should NASCAR change the chase points system at all?
I think they have it pretty close, but need to put a lot more emphasis on winning. A driver that wins races, should be in the Cup, as apposed to a driver who drives for points. It's like a football team that gets good points-for, and low points-against, but doesn't win the game: what's the point? NASCAR should be about winning each race, and those that do, should be in the chase. I'm not saying that everyone who wins a race should automatically be in the chase, but it's worth considering, since it will make drivers try to win, instead of just placing well.

They need to scrap the chase.
They need to scrap the provisionals.
They need to scrap the top 35 in owners points.
Too many drivers have gotten cocky about their status as for qualifing, well simple the fastest 43 cars quailify.Wait what if Matt,Junior,Jeff,Jimmy, Kasey,Tony don't get in the top 43?Simple go faster next week. This will make a more level feild, drivers have to quailify and not sit back an points.
Then the chase keep the 10 races but add 2 drivers. After each chase race the lowest chase points driver is eleminated. This would make the last race with 2 drivers going for the championship.

You are preaching to the choir here. It is a somewhat open secret amonst NASCAR teams and drviers that the cars and the drivers are not racing to win as much as they are racing to finish as well as they can week after week. So, instead of actually extracting every last ounce of speed and horsepower from the car and engine they are really just driving at about 80-90% of the true potential of the car and their ability levels.
The Chase was really invented to add excitement because the the point system rewards finishing and consistency over winning that the final races were not as exciting.
To me the point system should be much closer to the way it is in F1, something like 10 pts to the winner, 6 to second 5 to 3rd and on down. So, if you finish out side of the top 7 you might as well have not finished at all. This way winning is almost everything. This will be far more exciting because it will become very clear what teams/cars/drivers are good at certain tracks but not others. Also, the lead in the points race could change dramatically from race to race. Even if you eliminated the points for say anyone finishing below the top 20 or top 15 it make it more exciting.
The big problem: the sponsors would hate this because if more drivers crash out or withdraw from races their advertisements on the car get less exposure to fans.

Well I guess you can say it in every way. But to say that you have to win races to be in the chase may go to an extreme. Consider this. If you are in the top 10 in almost all races do you not have the right to win the cup? Granted, a winner in a race should have more status on the point system, but how about Brian Vickers winning the race at Talledaga? Was that a deserve win? It's all a matter of the crew/driver. If you are consisted than you deserve a shot. You have to be safe. Remember, the whole Cup game is now a different game. This is the New Nascar. I'm sure people will disagree but it seems it's bringing more fans and more races and more racers. So sit back enjoy and watch Tony Stewart run the track. =]]

I don't mind the chase system. I probably could use some tweaking. They could probably give the winner of a race a few more points. But one thing you have to keep in mind it's much tougher to be consistent then to win a race. The point system rewards that and it should. What's more impressive, a guy winning two races and then just getting eight top twenties, or a guy winning 10 top tens. Consistency is the key to a good team and a driver. So it's something to keep in mind. One thing they gotta get rid of is the stupid "lucky dog". It's saved to many guys after wrecks who were given back like 4 laps throughout the race. It's not right.

There should be more points for winning and/or letting the driver with the most wins in the chase automatically. I like the chase, it keeps things close unlike the busch series this year. It's too bad some of the drivers get left out by a few points. It's not perfect, but it's better than the previous system. Now, if only we can find a few decent commentators.

They need to go back to the way it used to be, when it was the Winston Cup.
As far as the current system, leave it the way it is. It is designed to award consistency. You suggest letting a driver be in the chase simply for winning a race? What if this driver has 1 win and 25 DNF's after the cut off, or better yet 1 win with only 1 start. That would be a championship contender.
It is sickening that the politically correct has corrupted yet another sport.

I agree more emphasis should be put on winning. They should get at least 20-30 more points than the second place finisher. I also think that there should be a big drop off in points for those after 10th place. I also think points should not be given to those who don't finish the race. Why reward losers whether it was their fault or not. Get rid of the bonus points for leading 1 lap. Too many times teammates will let each other lead a lap to get the bonus points.

The point system is pretty good right now. the only changes should be to give the poll winner 5 points and reward the winner with 25 bonus points. That way potentially the winner could recieve as many as 40 bonus points. Provisionals should be given for driver points only, not owner points because the drivers are the ones in the car.

Yes they do if I had my way I would make it where the guy who finishes 1st could gain at least 30 points on 2nd even if he leads the most laps and also I would have a seprate point system for the chase drivers
10. 20
9. 35
8.40
7.55
6.70
5.80
4.100
3.120
2.140
1.170( Extra 10 points if the driver finishes first) Remember this does not included bonus points you may call this stupid but at least you can actually gain some points in a race

they need to scrap the junk system "chase for the cup" altogether and go back to the system that served the series so well for over 30 yrs. if the old system would have been in place neither kurt "the fraud" busch nor matt "i cant win a race" kenseth would be champions. on top of that, jeff gordon would be a 5 time champ.
as far as tweaking the system, they need to do 3 things.....first award 15 points for winning the pole, award an additional 10 points for winning the race and lastly, only award points to the top 25 finishers.
they also need to do away with the unlimited provisionals for the the top 36 teams. make it so that the top 20 teams each week get in. make the rest work on getting better instead of just riding around (read this to be the robby gordon rule and the michael waltrip rule) and getting in the way.
