I feel or think so differently then you do from your question that I don't know how to begin.
I feel or think that he did not die for me. I feel or think that no one needs do die for me. I feel or think that he died because he made some enemy's for whatever reason who thought he should die, so they killed him. It happens all the time, do you feel or think the death sentence is acceptable? I feel or think that the sentence "For God so loved the world, he gave his only begotten son, so whoever believes in him will never die but have eternal life." is ridicules. I feel or think that is has as much truth as a fairy tale. I feel or think that fairy tales usually have some truth to them but they have been changed so much that there is no way to tell what the original meaning was. I feel or think that Its too confusing on purpose. I feel or think that everyone should get off their high horses, throw away the bible and think for yourself. That's what I feel and think anyway.....

I was raised as catholic so i know about the whole god thing......today im a buddhist. To me christinity is a scare tactic that some moron cult leader made up eons ago. Id rather believe that life can only get better after each passing by simply being true to yourself and to others, rather than have my life dictated by some hypathetical guy that there is no proof of! Buddhism is not lead by one god it is lead only by yourself with the guidance of many deities (who arent "gods") they are only people from many years past that have been outstanding human beings

Ummm that's nice and all but he did that to save us from himself, so he only gets partial credit.
...and as a spiritual being he knows about death and how it's not permanent, so again it's not as bad for him as a regular human dying....
Also I keep wondering why this is such a big deal, like no one has ever died for anyone else's sake before or since.
Obviously I'm not Christian, I just don't understand!

So martyrdom = godness? If that were true then all the bomb carrying muslims dying as martyrs for their god are right? The whole idea that a man/god gave up his 'life' for us is silly, superstitious, egotistical, and naive to say the least.

So, who is the "world"? It isn't all of humanity if Jesus prayed only for those that the Father gave him (i.e. predestined). Verse 18 says those who do not believe are condemned already, which also fits with God's sovereignty & election of His own.

Thankful.

Religion never kept the poor from killing the rich. The poor, ignorant masses, who were told what to believe, killed the intelligent rich because they were jealous and ignorant.
The disciples of Jesus Christ came from a variety of backgrounds, while Paul was educated and wealthy many of the disciples were uneducated, ignorant fishermen.

Here is something to ponder on,before Jesus died on the cross Satan stood there in the shadows and gloated,`All the sinners of this world belong to me`
Then the unbearable truth stung him as Jesus expired,`Oh no` He is going to pardon and forgive them all, and went off in a horrible rage of defeat.
Now wasn`t this one glorious day?

I thank God every day for His beloved son Jesus Christ. If I had not been saved and accepted Jesus into my life. It is no telling where I'd be today. Just remember one thing. If you were the only person left in this world.,He would have died just for you. "Merry Christmas" and always, God Bless you.

I was going to point out Biblical inconsistencies here, but I'll skip that.
So, who are you asking the question to though? You know the answer from Christians already. You also quite know the opinion of Non-Christians.
What's the point?

When I watch the crucifixion scene in Jesus of Nazareth, I just cry my heart out. It is a beautiful thing to carry in your heart--to know that someone always loves you and would give up anything for your shortcomings for as long as you live is so very comforting.
