I answered another question like yours not too long ago. My sister (who had terrible acne) could get through proactive. It would work for a week and then it stopped working and I found out why. It contains sodium benzoil which is too large to fit into the pore. She found ClearNow and it is one of the most effective products on the market. It uses sodium chloride which effectively cleanses the pores because it's oxygenated to kill the bacteria. It's kind of hard to find, but it's definitely worth it. My sister's skin is clear and it has never looked healthier.

If you can afford to buy a lightbox, the blue-red light therapy used by dermatologists is now available in a home unit.
These work! and are safer than tanning beds, etc. because they are not UV light.
the blue light stimulates oxygen within clogged pores and fights bacteria growth. The red light calms the skin and heals the inflammation.
15 minutes a day.
HappySkin runs about $170
Beauty Skin about $300

If you’re looking for accurate acne information, best to see a dermatologist. Some people believe doctors are predisposed to take the easy way to deal with acne… prescription drugs. But, with many, this simplistic answer may not be the appropriate course of action. Some feel that such prescription drugs just treat the symposium and not the underlying cause. But, a local dermatologist is still your best starting point.

For me personally, I discovered a great informational acne treatment site. Not only is there good information/articles but I got their audio e-book and following it’s advice can now say that my acne is a thing of the past! Keep in mind, were all different and there are various types of acne, so what works for some may not be totally effective for all.

Bottom line, hang in there, you will get past this! Sincere best wishes and good luck.
Oh, by the way the site that helped me is:

I've done Proactiv and it seems to be the best thing going, however, I would try the Nutrogena before any of the proactiv knockoff's...I tried a couple of those and they were horrible.
