OK, so I hav decided to take the dog with me, but contacting the police and the RSPCA anyway.
How can I make the dog trust me and take it into my car?
Any advice is much appreciated.

most strays have learned not to trust humans to live. talk soft and crouch down to make your self look smaller to them. bring some can food, sure he's hungry and this some times helps. it takes allot a patients, but he may find you are safe and come to you! i have to praise you on this. your sweet to care. lots of luck! :)
p.s.- please let me know how things go.

I'm not a doc or vet but my gut instinct is to think you have reason to worry. First I want to commend you for taking this animal in and seeing to his medical needs, you are a kind person, not many people would do that. Evaluating your description of his condition, I would guess the wobbliness could be just from soreness. About the eating problem, it may be that he is used to wet, soft food. Try soaking the Purina kibbles in warm water, maybe add a broken dog biscuit or two to it and stir it all together. It could be his urine is dark because he may not have had any drinking water for some time, depending on how long he's been lost/abandoned, but I feel your suspicions could be correct with regard to blood in it. I would just keep an eye on it for another 24 hrs and then return to the vet if I didn't see an improvement. He probably hasn't pooped because it may have been a while since he had a proper meal. But if he doesn't pass solids soon, that's another red flag that something could be wrong inside. I hope he gets better!

If the dog is possibly injured it would be best to let trained persons catch the dog. If you chase it, the dog may cause further injury to itself or possibly bite you. If this dog has been neglected and running wild the chance of it having an infectious disease is pretty high and going to the hospital to get shots to counteract rabies is not pleasant to say the least. Keep an eye on the dog from a distance that is comfortable for the dog. Call the SPCA and wait till they get there so you can show them where the dog is. That is the best thing you can do. It probably will not trust you enough to get in your car and most dogs won't accept food from people they don't know especially when they are sick. If you try to catch the dog and it runs off it won't get the care it needs and you'll feel bad for not waiting.

Food is always the obvious motivator but BE CAREFUL. If you don't know the dog you don't know what he's capable of. Scared dogs are way more dangerous than aggressive dogs as they are more unpredictable, ESPECIALLY in the confines of a car. If you have the time try to gain his trust first, using food to help. Good Luck!

i have forgotten the name of the stuff but there is a substance that attracts male dogs. the smell to a male dog is like a female dogs private part when they are on heat.

use food and a calm manner. do not try to pick the dog up, it will probably bite. make sure there is a way to segregate you from the dog inside the car - if he goes bonkers and jumps on your head while you're driving, that can't be good

I would be very careful about luring a stray in to your car. Strays are usually afraid of people for good reason. You could end up in an accident if it panics.

I don't know how big he is but if he is hungry you can bribe him with food. Take some really yummy chicken.
He'll be wary of you and make sure he is secure in your car - in a crate or behind a screen in the boot or he may panic.

I think I remember reading something to do with dogs and cars and they called it dogging. I'm sure if you do a google search for "dogging" it'll come up with lots of useful information

Hope that helps!
