So, a family friend of ours has 4 boxer puppies for sale for $450 each. However, she said I could get whatever puppy I wanted, for only $350. I want the runt of the little, she is a light brown and a fighter. I'm in college right now, in the dorms, but my boyfriend and I will be getting a place come January. By the way, the puppies will b ready for new homes on x-mas. I've had a puppy before, and I know I can take care of it, but for some reason she just isn't going for it. What do I do?!

Well, first off, I'm not graduating, I am still a freshman. Second, she wouldnt be taking care of it at all, considering I will be home for x-mas break. And my other puppy isnot a puppy anymore, he isnt dead.

No no...the lady said she will sell it for 350. And my boyfriend and I already have a place set up, so that isn't what I am worried about. And why wont I take my other dog? Because both my mom and little brother have grown attached to it and want to keep it there.

Respect your mothers decision - it is her house. Plan on getting a puppy when you get a house, an apartment is temporary living. Just a bit of advise

My mom did the same thing. No pets in college!

When I moved out of the dorm and into my own place I just went ahead and got a cat anyway while "forgetting" to mention it to her.

But seriously though, I don't know about your financial stuation but $350 during the holidays and on top of college might just be a lot of money. And she may be afraid that you and your boyfriend may have a change of plans when it comes to getting your own place.

Do you even know if the place you're going for will allow a dog? In some areas finding a dog apartment can be hard and many require an additional payment. In my building pets are an extra $500 down, one time nonrefundable payment. Others will charge you extra monthly.

It's all stuff you need to take into consideration.

Just curious, what happened to the puppy you had before?

Christmas is a terrible time to get a puppy. And why should your mom have to look after your pup, even for a short time? In fact, why can't you buy your own?

Wait until you have a place and can afford it.

I bet I sound like your mother.....

Edit: So why not just take the dog you already have to your new place? Probably your mom is worried that the new pup will be dumped on her too. That's what usually happens when people get pets while in college.

So you are in college. Will you still be in college in January? Do you really have the time to devote to a new puppy? They are just like having a baby...they require constant attention. Not to mention food, walks, vet visits, obedience classes, etc. Are you sure the puppy is a good idea? Will it be fair to the puppy? Maybe these are the questions mom is asking herself. If you really want the puppy you need to go to her with the plan to take care of the puppy and all of its needs.

Well, christmas break is nice, but that leaves the rest of the year for her to take care of it.

I suggest that after you and your boyfriend get your own place, than perhaps you ask her for it as a housewarming gift. Then it's yours to deal with.

Are you sure you want a boxer? I have a boxer mix puppy, and he is into EVERYTHING. Climbs onto the counters and gets into food and just about anything at regular height. We love him and yet want to strangle him at the same time.

Odd that you are graduating college and you cannot make your own decisions like this. It seems to me your mom just doesn't want the inconvenience of having the puppy in her house.

Why not let it stay at your boyfriends for the time being?

If you want it badly enough, you can find a way to earn it. Sell some of your stuff on eBay or hold a garage sale to make up that extra $100. "Give" is a dirty word in my philosophy. If I want something I earn it.

even if you dont like to, try doing extra chores or do everything that she tells you to do the first time and dont fuss about it and keep good grades in school that will show her you are responsible enough
