If you give up your parental rights you are no longer legally responsible for the child so no you dont have to pay child support. Make sure that this isnt the only reason you are giving up your rights... once this is done it is nearly impossible to get back. Most states wont let a parent give up parental rights unless the state or another person is getting rights to the child.

Absolutely. The reason fathers are responsible for child support is not becasue the courts want dad to be involved in their baby's life...that would be nice though. Child support is to prevent mom and the kids from poverty. Paternity rights and child support are two totally separate issues. Just like how a father who pays child support is not granted more custodial rights. Once a father, always a father. Sorry.

Well yes and no! If she agrees and lets you give up rights then you do not have to pay child support. If she said no then you can give the rights up but you still have to pay child support SORRY!

I think that is why you do not have sex with just anyone because it could come back and bite you in the A**

We are from California originally so im not entirely sure but from what i know, as my husband pays child support if you give up your rights, child support stops BUT the mother to the child must agree to this!! We tried to do the same thing, but the mother refused. You may want to contact your local child support agency and double check to make sure of your states laws, but i believe if you are able to sign away rights, all child support stops. Good luck.
p.s. i was reading some of the answers and people were saying to think of the child, i dont know your situation but if it was anything like ours, dont let people judge you for your decision.

i would imagine you cant just say i give up my rights as every bloke whos had a kid by a one night stand would do it the mother of the child would have to agree and normaly you can only give up rights once someone else takes over i,e the mother getting a new partner and adopting child as its own.
how would you feel knowing you had no say in how this child gets brought up? and what happens where its older and wants to know its real family its not just about you your depriving your family of a niece or nephew cousin granchild even brother or sister i would think very hard cause once done it cant be undone. it takes two to tango show some responsibility if you didnt want a kid youi shouldn of been so careless. there are people who cant have kids and you are taking yours for granted a kid is for life not just for xmas please think very carfully befor you do something you may regret

NOT TRUE -- NOT TRUE, unless said child is adopted by another person.

"sole custody" (one parent has all the rights, while the other has none, but still pays child support) may be what you mean, i am not sure.

since all states are different, i would contact your local legal aid office; they are in all states and most counties. they go on a sliding scale, so its free to most.

here are some links that may help too; just click on your state and find the custody section/child support section.

most states don't require so one you sign away your rights you are saying you no longer want part of the childs life untill they are 18 and that you are no longer responsible what so ever. call the locall child support office and they can give you the details better.

You can give up your parental rights but you are still financially responsible for that child till its 18. Don't be a loser...pay up to your responsibilities.

Why would you want to give up your parental rights? Your children are precious, There are many people who would love to have kids and can't. And here you are, you have kids, and you want to throw them away and let someone else be responsible for your own offspring, financially and emotionally. Sorry, I think you should think about the gift you are losing, not the money.

The fact that you gave up your rights and want to get out of support means you are a fu*king loser. Where is your heart, your humanity. That is your child for christs sake.
