More speakers more bass. (if you have the space for it) Think like this 2 12"woofers =24 inch of moving mass. 1 12" DVCwoofer 12" of moving mass.
You have to move more air to get more bass.
Oh, and it helps to get woofers with a high SPL. This means that the woofer will be more efficient, and can have louder bass at lower wattage levels!

Most of these are correct, the more mass you move the louder, but did you know that Ultra Sonic waves that you cannot hear, that are created from a speaker, will be louder than bass itself, and will shatter glass way before the frequency that a sub can produce. Ultra sonic bass is pretty interesting. Rattles the fillings out of your teeth ;-)
Even today our military is experimenting with this.
Also, keep in mind, some amps produce more power with a lower ohm load. Take for instance, the older Phoenix Gold amps. The lower the ohm load the more power they produced. This was because they had unregulated power supplies in them.

Ohms doesn't make the bass, air movement does as well as the right enclosure.

Of course, two cones moving half as far as a single cone is...the same.
They are going to be about the same if the power is the same. One is easier to deal with in terms of install.
If you exceed the rating of a single with your amp...step up to two.
