Bound's hubby here:
First, bullets are weighed using the unit called a grain, there are 7000 grains to a pound.
The .38s will shoot a broad variety of bullet weights. The lightest weight bullet is typically a 95 grain bullet, and the heaviest is a 200 grain bullet found in the .38/200 (.38 S&W).
The .44s will typically fire bullets weighing between 180 and 300 grains.
The .45s will typically fire bullets weighing from between 165 grains to about 300 grains.
Good luck!

The .45 can simply fire a larger bullet at a high muzzle velocity and achieve good penetration. You could kill a violent intruder in your house at night with a bow or a spear or even a pellet gun- but when you push 230 grains into them and repeatedly, if needed, your likelihood of saving your wife and daughter from being raped and murdered is a lot better. If you want to be technical, there are three highly mass produced automatic pistol calibers larger than the .45 available, and numerous specialty calibers that are larger, not to mention rimmed cartridges. If I have no other choice than to squeeze the trigger on a hostile bad guy, I want to be sure that I can neutralize the threat as efficiently as possible. The 45 is definitely a defense round. The bad guys who commit acts of heinous gun violence almost always choose the smaller calibers of which so many more bullets can be put into the standard magazine.

your out of luck here they vary within each caliber ( sometimes greatly ) in some cases you can have weights from 90 grains to 150 grains in one caliber
the rough answer in order of weight for most common rounds would be .38 lightest and the .44 heaviest ( and the .45 in the middle ) if the .44 is a magnum round and the .45 is the Colt auto round ( .44MAG and .45ACP )
but there are non magnum .44 rounds and .45 rounds ( rimmed ) that are not the typical auto pistol round ( see out of luck - i could send you pages on all the variations ! ) LOL !

There are many different weights for each caliber depending on the style of projectile and the manufactuere and the material used.
Go to the website I'm providing and look up each caliber. Look at a brand of ammo and look for the specification called 'grains' (that's a unit of mass). That will tell you what you need.

They weigh lots of different amounts... The caliber describes the barrel width, not the length of the round nor it's metal of construction, so the bullet can weight lots of different things.
Some standard values do exist, though, see the links:

They can weigh all different weights. You can go to walmart and buy 150 165 and 180 grain 30-06 shells. Your question just doesn't make sense.
