Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy everything that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.
— 1 Samuel 15:3
In the cities of the nations the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance, do not leave alive anything that breathes. Completely destroy them — the Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites — as the LORD your God has commanded you.
— Deuteronomy 20:16-17
Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. You can will them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life…
— Leviticus 25:44-46
The people of Samaria must bear their guilt, because they have rebelled against their God. They will fall by the sword: their little ones will be dashed to the ground, their pregnant women ripped open.
— Hosea 13:16
You will destroy their descendants from the earth, their posterity from mankind.
— Psalm 21:10
Happy is he who repays you for what you have done to us — he who seizes your infants and dashes them against the rocks!
— Psalm 137:8-9
The LORD commands: “kill without showing pity or compassion. Slaughter old men, young men and maidens, women and children”
— Ezekiel 9:5-6
If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey his father and mother, and will not listen to them when they discipline him, they shall seize him and bring him before the elders. Then they shall say to the elders, “This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious. He will not obey us. He is immoral and a drunkard.” Then all the men of his town shall stone him to death. You must purge the evil from among you. All Israel will hear of it and be AFRAID.
— Deuteronomy 21:18-21
Got the point the bible is a violent book.
Check out this monologue from the West Wing. It quotes some interesting bible verses and makes a good illustration.
Chapter & Verse
from the series "The West Wing" created by Aaron Sorkin
President Bartlet (Martin Sheen): I like how you call homosexuality an abombination.
Jenna Jacobs: I don't say homosexuality is an abomination, Mr. President, the Bible does.
President Bartlet: Yes, it does. Leviticus.
Jenna Jacobs: 18:22.
President Bartlet: Chapter and verse. I wanted to ask you a couple of questions while I have you here. I'm interested in selling my youngest daughter into slavery as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. She's a Georgetown sophmore, speaks fluent Italian, always cleared the table when it was her turn. What would a good price for her be? While thinking about that, can I ask another? My Chief of Staff Leo McGarry insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly says he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself or is it okay to call the police? Here's one that's really important because we've got a lot of sports fans in this town: touching the skin of a dead pig makes one unclean. Leviticus 11:7. If they promise to wear gloves, can the Washington Redskins still play football? Can Notre Dame? Can West Point? Does the whole town really have to be together to stone my brother John for planting different crops side by side? Can I burn my mother in a small family gathering for wearing garments made from two different threads? "Think about that, will you? Oh, and one last thing. You may have mistaken this for your meeting of the ignorant tight-asses club but in this building, when the President stands, nobody sits.

In biblical times slavery wasn't always a race issue as it is portrayed most recently by Amarican slavery. Slavery was much more commen place as was another from of slavery called indebted servitude in which someone is force to act as a slave to pay off debts that they are other wise unable to pay. In BC and even after slaves were often taken following war as punishment for resisting the victor. In Roman cities it was quite possible to be white and a slave as it was to be colored and free though they most likely would not have been afforded citizenship which most Romans even those free and born in rome were not granted. As to the bible it does condone it however as far as i'm aware it does not push for it eather, it simply accepts it as something that is.

i dont think there are verses in the quran that say war isnt allowed. but there are verses that put conditions to war. for example in islam you cant invade, you can only defend. and i it comes to that than there are other rules like civilians cant be harmed. and so on and so forth. check surat "attawba" if you're interested...
btw gary, if going to quote these verses state what comes before and after, because you WILL find that the reason for this is as i just stated above. which is why i recommended it.

From the Quran:
The Verse Of The Sword from Al-Tawbah
Fight and slay the pagans (infidels) wherever ye find them, and seize them,
beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem of war." - Sura 9:5
"Prophet, make war on unbelievers and hypocrites, and deal rigorously
with them." - Sura 9:73
"Let not the unbelievers think they will ever get away. They have not
the power to do so. Muster against them all the men and cavalry at
your command, so that you may strike terror into the enemy of Allah
and your enemy... Sura 8:59
REAL PEACEFUL , eh?

Are you trying to get ammo to use against religion?
In the bible it says that there is a time to every purpose, including a time to kill.
I don't know about the Quran.
