Depends entirly what you want. A certain area will appeal to a certain kind of tourist. What is one persons paradise is simply decadent trash to another person.
You have to truly look inside your self and try to descover your real reason for visiting the Kingdom. If you don't do this you might not end up in an area that suits your needs.
Firstly if you're into culture you will certainly want to see lots of temples eat traditional Thai food pick up on some of the langauge and learn about the culture its best to stay away from places like Pattaya. Then you need to go North of Bangkok spending at least a day in Auyuttia and some time in Chang Mai.
Then you might want to get off the beaten track and spend some time in a hill village and see a longneck tribe.
If you are more of a beach person but don't like overly commercialised area's I would suggest Krabbi. and some of the islands off Krabbi like Kho Lak or Phi Phi.
If you're a beach person but want a high energy nightlife and want to see or experience the Naughty nightlife I would suggest Phuket.
For a beach vacation that has a bit of everthing I would suggest Kho Samui.
If your just interested in the Ladies its best to stick to Bangkok and Pattaya and Patong in Phuket.

Two weeks is a long time- you can go pretty much anywhere in Thailand you want.
Your friends are right- Bangkok is good for a couple of days to hit the key shopping, eating, and partying spots but then get out as soon as you can.
I like Chiang Mai because it's laid back. It's cooler in climate than Bangkok and is great for temples, handicrafts, elephants, rafting (gentle, not white water) and great motorcycling if you're into that. Can either fly or for a more scenic, interesting and cheaper experience take the train.
The best beaches are in the South, in the Phuket-PhiPhi-Krabi area. Phuket is a good bet because you have a bit of everything- nice secluded beaches and a Starbucks if you miss civilization. You'll need to rent a scooter (at US$4/day) to get around to really explore as the little red taxis are a monopoly and they know it.
For 2 weeks I'd suggest 2 days 2 nights in Bangkok. Train up to Chiang Mai- rent a car or motorbike and explore for 2-4 days. Fly to Phuket and spend the rest of your time there, flying back to Bangkok in the end.

If you've got two weeks you could spent about 3/4 days in Bangkok, there are beautiful temples to see and the Grand Palace is spectacular, also you need to see the night life and shopping. You could then go to Chang Mai which is not by the coast and end up in either Phuket and Phib Phi or my favourite Koh Samui on the other side. You would have to fly to these places from Bangkok on Thai Airways. If you stayed near Bangkok there are really seedy beach resorts which I wouldnt recommend like Pattaya, give that a miss. Enjoy yourself.

Bangkok shopping is alright, but 2 weeks in Bangkok is quite boring if you are here solely shopping.I would sugest some tours and maybe if you get tired in Bangkok you can fly to Chiang Mai,I personally feel that Chiang Mai is a better place to travel. There are tours worth going to (eg hilltribes tours,Golden Triangle etc)Gd Luck.

Everywhere is great in Thailand.
Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai are gorgeous and relatively cool mountainous regions. Phuket is great, but steer clear of Patong unless you in dire need of some company. Koh Phi Phi is wonderful, you can rent a boat for the day and fart around on all of the little islands. Koh Samui is another great spot for the beachgoers.
Anywhere and everywhere you can think of is great, use Air Asia to get around(just book ahead) and your travel will stay in budget.

visit www.visualthailand.com. There are 1000's of recent photos and lists of things to do, general information, stories, etc all organized very easily with no advertising or commercials. This is like going on a mini-tour before every arriving in Thailand, and on that one site you can get a good idea how to plan out your whole 2 weeks stay here.

there's a Thai grocery someplace in London call Tawan, you will get something there, yet costly. Asides from that, there are approximately 80 Thai eating place in London and bigger area by myself. in case you’re Thai and being a Thai student, there’s a Thai student association call Samakki. locate the Thai Embassy, consular area, or the student area call Kor Por (don’t understand the call in English). All in all, Thais in England at the instant are not something like Thais in Thailand. in case you’re Thai student, get you bud mutually and end the direction and are available lower back. in case you’re no longer, save up you cash and are available for a flow to. in any different case, start up liking the place you're top now so as to no longer waste the time on your existence.

Bangkok is just a fascinating, intoxicating and disorderly place, full of sights, smells, thrills, pleased persons, contradictions, countries, vehicles, noise and bedlam, know it with Hotelbye since Bangkok is full with great stuff. One of many things you might find in Bangkok is Wat Phra Kaew or the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. Wat Phra Kaew is the most important Buddhist Temple in Thailand and is located in the historic centre of Bangkok, within the lands of the Grand Palace. The Temple of Emerald Buddha is superbly furnished and features a good sense of peace about any of it and makes Bangkok an area worth visiting.
