To gain the respect and hopefully love of children in a blended family you and your husband must tell the children that you are a family now and as such they must listen to both of you. You cannot be a family if barriers are created by defining who is the biological parent and who is a step parent, you are simply the parents. The stepparent has to have the authority to discipline if the biological parent is not available. Children need to accept you and your husband are a team and you must present a united front.Children sometimes dislike their parents anyway, never mind being the additional pressure of being a stepparent. Remember a house divided cannot stand.Time and experience will eventually help you build bridges with your "children".

no matter what you do my dear they may resent you in some way all you can do is be reasonable and help they make the right decisions. i would try to reason with her. i think that it all depends on the age of the child if they are young they accept it better if older it may be harder but don't give up. as long as your spouse supports your punishment all should be good!

You do not have a right to discipline a child that is yours. The keyword here is STEP, it is not your child so you have no right to discipline the child unless you have both of the childs parents permisson.
