I have an idea for an invention, but have no idea how to go about building this device, with all its intracacies, into a working prototype. Beyond that, I also need help designing it for market. What agencies out there can help me and how much do they cost? Being in the Oklahoma area is preferable.

Hire a patent attorney and do a patent search first to ensure your idea is unique. You may also be able to file for multiple patents.

DO NOT DISCUSS THE ACTUAL IDEA WITH ANYONE.....

Becareful not to announce what the actual idea is except to your lawyer.... You will start a 1 year time limit by which you must reduce your Idea to practice and file your patent. Otherwise your idea is relased into the public domain .....

You may not need to have a prototype built at this time...

Also start a log book in a bound composition book. Have the first page witnessed by several people that you are starting a new log book on a particular date for the purpose of documenting product development. (Do not tell them your idea) Sequentially number the pages and start a new page each day you work on your project. Date on the top of the page and sign the bottom of each page when you finish writing.

Document your idea from inception through develpoment. This book can make a big difference into proving that you came up with the idea first.....

Get a a Patent Attorney ASAP....

My company does this and I am located in Broken Arrow, OK.

E-mail me through Yahoo here. I will send you some info about me and my company; maybe I can help you.

We sometimes invest in ideas, where we are paid by having an interest in the idea. This assures you that we will work hard to make some money on the thing...

The one year limit generally has to do with the SALE of a product using the idea. If you discuss the idea, a simple NDA (non-disclosure agreement) will demonstrate your due diligence in keeping the idea confidential. Don't discuss it with anyone who has a history of indiscretion (worst culprits are ironically - family members).

There are companies out there that specialize in helping inventors get their product to market. But they do require you to front at least some of the money for any project. I donlt know if they're really legit or not, but the one I spoke to, Davidson Engineering, if memory serves, seemed okay. But you might want to do your own Search. Maybe you'll find something better.

you're able to make somebody sign some criminal documents like a non-disclosure style, a non-opposition style...issues like that so in the event that they do scouse borrow your concept and make greater than a number of money you could sue them certainly.
