My kitten is rowdy and very active. Is there anything I can do to keep him out of my Christmas tree before I decide to cancel the whole season?

If its an indoor cat the wild behavior and running a muck everywhere is something that just comes with the territory.

My young cat does a lot of that himself and there was really no stopping him.

I got him one of the toys with a long firm plastic handle and a dangley toy at the end. I make sure to play with him enough so that he's satisfied and tired out. It stops him from doing a lot of bad things, like trying to climb the walls and get into the kitchen cabinets.

You can try the spray bottle or yelling at him, but at nighttime is the best time to explore your tree.

He is such a baby now and is exploring everything under the sun. Just like human babies do.

I opted not to have a large tree this year in hopes next year will be better--my kitten is 7 months now.

I just have two artificial table top trees and he doesn't bother them.

Fill a clean spraybottle with water and give kitty a quick spritz when he heads for the tree, while telling him "No!" firmly. Most cats HATE water - he'll learn ;)

Oh -- off subject just a lil bit -- Don't let kitty get into the Christmas poinsettia plants, if you have any; they're poisonous to pets!

Frankly, no. You can pull him down and pull him down, but it is in his instincts to climb that tree!

He will tire of it eventually, and may stop completely as he ages.

For now, just don't put lights on the tree--or, if you do, only have them plugged in while you're in the room. Also, keep your more breakable ornaments near the bottom in case they get knocked down.

Good luck!

Slice lemons and limes and hang them under the tree.
