nope- this is a common mistake. your cake will explode if you make this substitution.

No. You can't. But you can add cream of tartar to baking soda as a substitute for baking powder. The formula is here:

They are two very different things, baking powder helps things rise, baking soda helps things spread.

not really soda is a base powered is an active.
for some things it wont matter but for baking a cake and so on it would .

You cannot substitute one for the other because they are made differently and have different purposes.
