How can you hate something you don’t believe exists?

Also, do you understand what an Atheist is? Do you know that it is someone who just doesn’t believe in god AT ALL? Someone who does believe in god, but has his doubts, is not and Atheist.

That’s different. Now if you think that everyone truly knows there is a god deep down, then you don’t believe there is any such thing as an Atheist. You should stop using the term “Atheist” and “Unbeliever” to describe people, because by your understanding they aren’t truly Atheists and unbelievers. ;)

Why do you come here if YOU aren't willing to be converted to Atheism? See how it works both ways?

I'm an atheist. I'm offended when people don't know what that means, especially since there is an ocean of information at their fingertips.

A lack of understanding will never stop some people having an opinion.

I read the whole thing. Just for the record.

A person who has a belief in something but is either unwilling or unsure to give it a name is called an Agnostic. A person who believes there is no higher power at all is an Atheist. I do understand the difference. That being said, on the other side of the coin.... I am a Witch; a witch that does not believe in Satan and I get thought of as a Satan worshiper frequently. I tell people similarly to your thought.... that is that I can not worship something that in my mind does not exist. So I have multiple levels of understanding about what you are saying here.

Atheism ISN'T a religion nor is it spiritual. That being said....

Everyone has the right of free choice. No one should try to force their beliefs on another. I & my husband are a Jewish/Christian, our grown children are Christian and do not embrace Judaism, my son-in-law is an Atheist. None of us pressure the other. There are times when our children are here for some of our observances and they either sit quietly or at times even participate, we do not surprise them with what will be happening they know before they come over if something religious is going on. We show respect for each other's personal beliefs and can have some very interesting discussions.

Is there a God? One day ALL shall know the truth one way or another. Until then I see no reason to fight with people who think & believe differently than I.

I think many Christians who say "Why do you hate God?" are saying that because they think that deep down Atheists really do believe in God.
I happen to be one of those people who think that deep down Atheists really do know that God exists. However, I have never said or thought that Atheists hate God. I believe that everyone who has ever lived on earth has had a veil placed over their memories that has caused them/us to forget where we were prior to being born on earth. I also believe that everyone was given certain, specific challenges in life. For some it may be over indulging, sexual gratification, or believing in only that which can be proven beyond a shadow of doubt. I believe that at some point, maybe even after death, self-described atheists will realize where they came from and be able to decide if they believe in Christ or not. I use the term Atheist because that is what Atheists call themselves. I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints. Most people who are not members of this church use the term Mormon to describe us. I don't use the term when talking to my friends or family (family is not a member of the same church I am), but I do here because that is the term most people know us as. I prefer LDS, or even the Church of Jesus Christ. I'm not offended when people use the term Mormon to describe me/my church affiliation. It sounds like you are offended when people call Atheists (perhaps even you), Atheists. What would you have us call them/you?

Curious post. Interesting points.

"Are you an atheist?" "Yup... Swear to God!" :-)

It's intersting how many people who slam certain groups simply don't understand them, believing tracts and preachers to explain groups that they know nothing of at all.

To give them credit, Bible Believers believe that "God" put a spark of belief in everyone, (The Bible tells them so), and that non-believers are simply ignoring that God-shaped-part. As they can't believe anything that the Bible doesn't allow, they believe that all Atheists, Pagans, Agnostics and anyone else is simply turning their back on something that they somehow "believe" but don't want to.

They have no capacity to understand that there are those who have studied the Bible and found it wanting. They believe the Bible to be such self-evident truth, that those who choose to ignore it are not merely ignorant, but arrogant. Thus, we are worse than mere non-believers, we are those who have supposedly seen the truth and rejected it willingly.

There is no room in their paradigm for us who simply have studied and found no reason to believe.

I'm not an atheist, but I don't believe the Bible to be the sole source of truth for the world. The World is simply too big, and the Bible was revealed to too few. If it were the sole word of God, or Deity, that means that God simply didn't want most of the world to hear 'His' word.

Well said!

The problem here is the examples that people have to go by. Let's just keep in in YA! context for purposes of this discussion.

When see people calling them selves " Atheists " preaching about the non-existence of God, I have to wonder if these " Atheists " are following a religion of their own. A religion against religion. I would guess that a true Atheist would find this whole conversation ridiculous. Much like arguing the existence of the Easter bunny or the tooth fairy.

I thank you for your post. It's like to see a glimmer of reason in this forum. Best wishes.

I understand your point. I am LDS and am often stereo-typed or misunderstood for my beliefs (or lack thereof). The beauty of this world is that we all have agency, we are all respnsible for our own choices and will be held accountable for them someday.
I personally do not know any Atheists, I live in Utah so I barely know very many non-Mormons. I believe we are all sons and daughters of God and everyone on this earth has the right to worship or not worship as they may, and also expect that same right.
Thank you for making a good point.
***Also, I agree with Shalvia, one way or the other, eventually all will know. Why fight about it?

There is not a Christian on here that believes that in themselves they are or can be anything but evil. We believe that only through the Blood of Jesus we are given His righteousness. Has mankind ever been altruistic? No, there is always something people are looking for when they do "Good works" praise, respect, maybe some plans for monetary gain down the road. Maybe a book deal. All men not just atheists, not Christians, not Muslims... Not one of us is good. Are we picking on you telling you that you are just like us... If you think so better get used to it. we are ALL evil in our deepest thoughts... Jim

I actually read the whole thing. Be proud.

ummm......I know what an atheist is and I know that atheists believe there is no deity of any kind.
I also am fully confident that Yahweh God is real because He changed my life amazingly and drastically.

"For since God created the world, His eternal qualities-his eternal power and divine nature- have been seen clearly through the creation of the world, so that no one has an excuse that they didn't know He existed on the day of God's judgment."

Well the Bible says that in every person there is a God shaped Hole- that every person knows deep in his/her spirit that God does exist. However, if you say you do not believe in God- then you do not believe and therefore you are an Atheist.
How can you hate what you deny exist?
If you do not believe- and it is a conscious act to believe- then you are a non-believer. Your thought out logic is not logic at all.

I have often come to understand that people who think they hate God actually only hate His followers. Anyway, to answer your question, I have never asked that question to an Atheist myself. It is redundant considering that a true Atheist does not believe God exists.
