You are in an interfaith relationship. The are difficult at times. I think it is always not good form to get the combo day gifts... i.e. one large gift for both occassions. I have known people born on Dec. 25 who get that done for them and they always seem to have a bad feeling about it. I would get him a small gift that shows you are willing to honor important traditions for him. I would get a more special gift for his birthday which could symbolize that the date upon which he came to this world is very, very special to you as he is also special to you.

Gift cards are impersonal, if this is a guy you want to impress or show affection for I wouldn't recommend it. One way you could compromise would be to offer to take him out to dinner instead of getting a gift card. Then you could maybe give him a small give at the dinner. Find out this kind of things he likes or needs. If you live in a cold area, maybe gloves and a hat would be good. Something that's not fancy, but shows that you care about him.
My mom (Christian) dated a Jewish guy, and she gave him a gift for Hannakah. He gave her one for Christmas. I think however you want to work it out with is fine. Giving him a gift shows him that although you do not celebrate Christmas, you respect the fact that he does. After all, two people can not form a relationship if they do not respect eachother's beliefs. Sharing the beliefs isn't a requirement.

Don't combine Christmas and his birthday. They are 2 seperate and special events. And even though YOU don't celebrate Christmas, he does! You can respect and embrace his traditions without compromising yours.
And gift cards suck! They are impersonal and as a guy, they are WORK! Guys generally do NOT like to shop. Instead, get him something you know he will like. You must have some ideas.

My father's birthday is Jan 3. I always get him a Christmas gift and a separate birthday gift. I think gift cards are great anytime.

I think you should get him 2 small gifts. Maybe try to give him something personal/romantic on Christmas, since it's one of the most romantic holidays and give him a small hint that you like him. Good luck =)

Gift cards are kinda impersonal but if you think he'd like one...go for it. My guy doesn't celebrate the holiday but he knows I do so he always does something nice for me.

Why don't you let him know that you don't celebrate Christmas and he should respect you for that and if you want to get him something just to be special go for it just let him know that you normally don't get presents but here you are.

some people hate Christmas because due to the lack of family. They feel lonely at this time of year and the amount of suicide is high
