You can do any number of things, limited only by your imagination. Along with the suggestions of the other answers, (carry weights, walk at a faster pace); you can skip, jump rope, run/jog for a few mins to get your heart rate up - then go back to the same pace you were walking until your heart rate goes back down - and do it again. You can bounce a ball (running after it, makes you move more - and it's fun); you can hike rather than walk - the difference really is in the terrain. Hiking is not all smooth (as in walkways) and forces your body to balance and works your muscles differently. You can hoola-hoop, use flex-bands, swing your arms, or dance to an ipod. Lift your knees higher, put some bounce in your movements, walk further.

Be careful you don't suddenly increase the intensity or length of your walking workout ... always pay attention to what your body is telling you .. but don't be afraid to push yourself either.

Congratulations on exercising -- and have lots of fun while doing it!

You can do burst of running for 30 seconds every three to four minutes. That revs up your metabolism like crazy. Also, try skipping, it's fun, and it will burn extra calories.

Adding some weights isn't a bad idea, but not ankle weights. You're more prone to injure yourself or pull a muscle. If you want to add weights, use hand ones.

I hope you are walking at a fast pace already, but if not, walk faster, carrying weights, or wearing leg weights will also help.
