That is an Irish wedding ring. If you wear it with the heart pointing towards you, it means love; if you wear it with heart pointing away from you it means friendship. It is called a Claddagh ring.

I believe you are describing a Claddagh ring, also known as an Irish wedding ring. In the center there is a heart, which symbolizes love. Around the heart is a pair of shaking hands, which symbolizes friendship. On top of the heart is a crown, which symbolizes loyalty.

Claddaghs are also commonly made into pendants, earrings, Christmas ornaments etc. etc. As far as rings go, when the heart is worn outward, the ring symbolizes friendship and that the wearer's heart is available. When the heart is worn inwards the ring symbolizes love and that the wearer's heart is taken.

No. It's an Irish Claddagh. It symbolizes love and friendship. It can be used as an engagement ring or wedding ring but that's not always the case.

No, it's an Irish Claddagh ring and the way you wear it has different meanings. Right v. Left. Heart pointing towards v. away.

A claddah ring is a celtic wedding or friendship ring. Many people wear claddah rings nowadays; I know people who have claddah rings as their wedding bands, but this isn't necessarily the case. I bought myself several claddah rings, and used to wear them all the time, with the heart facing out (when I was single) and the heard facing in (when I was in a serious relationship).

Any ring can be used as a promise ring...the one you are referring to included. It is a personal choice. Some have no promise ring, others have a band with a channel of diamonds...it just depends.

It's called a cladagh ring, and it can be a promise, engagemtn or wedding ring. if it is worn with the heart pointting toward your shoulder, it means you're involved. if the point is facing out it measn you are not. and never give one to yourself, since it is bad luck. they are meant to be given by friends or lovers. the heart, hands and crown symbolize love, loyalty and freindship. it's irish!^-^

What you are referring to (I think) is actually called a Claddaugh ring. The full story regarding the history and symbolism of the ring can be found here:
