I recently had to put my kitten down after she had her ears treated for mites. I was reading up about the symptoms and think she had ivermectin toxicity with the symptoms of "wobbly kitten," dilated pupils, weakness, and incoordination.

I adopted her from an animal shelter. Is it possible that they also gave her some medicine that had ivermectin in it (to treat fleas)? I took her to the vet a week later and she was given topical ivermectin in her ear. Soon after she started showing the symptoms of weakness etc.

I took her to the emergency vet and they thought it was neurological and we decided to put her to sleep. I did some research online today and discovered a few articles about the toxicity.

I'm planning on confronting the vet that gave her the medicine to begin with -- because he really should know what happened to this kitten.

Any advice you can provide would be helpful.

Just dont go in mad to your vet. If he didn't know what the shelter gave him and if you took it to a different vet at the er later, it really isnt his fault. If you talk to him maybe he can give you some insight but dont go in mad blaming him because just like everyone else if you are getting blamed for something you didnt know all the information about you might get defensive. I hope your vet has some answers for you. I am sorry about your loss.

Ivermectin is a very common medication. But even with the safest meds, there are chances of rare side effects. Plus, there are hundreds of other causes to neurological problems. Did you have an autopsy done to figure out what was wrong? Did you have any diagnostics like labwork done?
