Huskies are one of the most intelligent dog breeds, actually. Of course, it's always true that some dogs are smarter (or dumber) than others just as some people are smarter than others. But, in general, Huskies are exceptionally intelligent. Yes, they can have high energy, and if they're not properly cared for this can make them seem hard to train. For example, if you have a large, energetic dog in a small apartment, don't take him for walks, don't let him get enough exercise -- he's going to tear things up. He's not dumb, he's working off the energy the only way left available to him. Put the same dog in a home with a nice big yard and plenty of space to run and he'll be calm, easily trained, and well behaved.
Your "old lady" friend isn't very reliable in this case. Huskies are intelligent, loyal, wonderful dogs to own!

Huskies are some of the smartest dogs that there are. The reason that so many Huskies get the dumb label is because they ARE so hyper. They have so much energy that it's harder to train them then other dogs. Some people say that Huskies stay puppies until they're three! We have a Huskie and yes he is VERY energetic but he is also extremely smart.

As everyone else has said, no they are not dumb. They will run at 100mph (joking) , and hit a wall because they cannot stop in time...but they are not dumb. A Husky is the most clever dog you will encounter. If that dog wants to escape your yard, nothing short of putting it in a cage with a lock will stop it. If it wants to get off of the leash OR harness it will. Huskys ARE hard to train, and require constant re-enforcement to the training. They are pack dogs and are not meant to be trained like a Lab, but it can be done. Some are hyper, some are mellow. They are very nice dogs, and want to be friends with everyone...including burglers. They are not the greatest watch dogs, unless they are trained to be. Just get used to a lot of fur...a lot of it. They shed twice a year.

No.
Whatever breed is in fashion at the moment will be dumb. This is because of all of the backyard breeders and puppy mills that will jump in the bandwagon to fulfill whatever demand there is by over breeding inferior dogs. If a breed can recover from this at all, it will take years.
Siberian Huskies have never been a popular fashion, so no, they are not particularly dumb.

No Huskys are not dumb, I would say they tend to be a little doofy. but they are clever watch out. just because that old bat couldn't train hers, doesn't mean they are dumb. They do have a lot of energy when they are young (much like labs) but then mellow out when they hit about 2. They are great dogs!

My Nikita was very smart in every area but this one..if she ever got off of her running chain...she would head for the woods and ...JUST KEEP RUNNING....she could never find her way home......I think they are bred to run long distances in mainly straight lines...( not many markers in the frozen tundra)....but other than that...very smart...although she was somewhat hyper...but that gets better with age...I think you would love a husky...make sure you have plenty of running room....they are energetic....Enjoy
