Mulled Cider:
Apple Cider, 1 gal.--can be bought at most grocery stores
4 cinnamon sticks, broken in half
1/2 tbsp whole allspice
1/2 tbsp whole cloves
cheesecloth
thread, for tying
Pour the cider into a clean crockpot/slow cooker.
Cut a largish square of the cheesecloth (double it up so you don't get a lot of sediment), and put the whole spices and cinnamon sticks into the center. Pull up the corners and tie a pouch with the thread, making a bag. Trim the excess cheesecloth if necessary.
Place the spice pouch into the crockpot with the cider, and turn the heat to LOW. Let mull for 2-3 hours. To serve, ladle the cider into teacups (it is hot). Add more cider when necessary.

Hot Cranberry Drink
200g cranberries
200 ml orange juice
3 teaspoons sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ginger
Put the cranberries and orange juice in a saucepan with the orange juice and bring to the boil. Simmer until the skins of the cranberries split and then mash hard to try to extract as much cranberry juice as possible. Pour into a meal sieve and press the cranberries hard to get as much juice through as possible . Return the juice to the saucepan and add the sugar and spices. Taste to see if it is sweet enough and serve immediately.
This recipe makes just one serving. The cranberries could be swapped for 200ml cranberry juice.

If it's a small party, a selection of white and red wines, with some soft drinks (for those who don't drink or want to make spritzers). For a larger party, consider sangria or a choice of alcoholic/non-alcoholic punch. Or you could make the party byob and see what shows up. If it's a Christmas or new year's party consider some sparkling wine.

Hot spiced cider!
Fill your crock pot up with apple cider, scrub and thinly slice 1 orange and add that, add 3-6 cinnamon sticks depending on size and how much cider you have. In a tea ball or spice bag add several whole cloves and 1 nutmeg that you have broken and hang that in the cider. Let steep on low for at least 2-3 hours. Remove teaball before serving.

Try making a cranberry drink for the kids(or anyone who doesn't want alcohol)...
Its a pretty simple recipe. All you do is put an equal amount of Sprite and cranberry juice in a punch bowl and stir. Voila! Its ready! It also tastes delicious!

Many local supermarkets and convenience stores offer non-alcoholic egg nog. All the tradition, none of the guilt! We also have great success with sparkling apple cider.

Quick and simple:
Warm up some apple juice (how ever much you'll need). Pour into punch bowl and mix a spicy hard candy with it (Hot Tamales work if you put them in the glasses).

If there are going to be alot of older people, they usualy prefer tea or coffe. But if it is younger people maybe try soda or beer. Also if there are going to be some kids, buy some juice or milk.
