How is touretts syndrom diagnosed?

It took years for me to get diagnosed. I was showing signs and symptoms as early as 4 or 5 years old, but wasn't diagnosed until I was almost 13. It's really hard to diagnose, and it's not very widely recognozed. Look for motor as well as verbal tics - motor being eye twitching, stretching the face, blinking the eyes, moving the head around, etc and verbal being grunts, squeaks, clicking the tongue and in VERY SEVERE cases, cursing. It's also associated with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), attention deficit disorder (ADD), and sometimes other behavioral disorders. It's also considered a learning disability. For a formal diagnosis, though, you have to go to a neurologist.

Touretts syndrome takes a while to diagnose. I have a friend who has a child who may have childhood early onset touretts, however, they Prediagnosed him over a yr ago and testing and therapies are still going on to fully diagnose him. Seek a doctors help to be diagnosed, but KNOW that it will take a while to be completely diagnosed with that.
