Do non-Spanish speaking Americans care about prononciuation. For example the word caballo which means horse is pronounced (KA-BYE-OH) but people pronounce it (KAB-ALOE)?

i think it's a give and take. i know that when i attempt spanish and french that i'm butchering the language, but i think the attempt is noted and the pronunciation is overlooked.

i have encountered many foreign people b/c of my work experience and i have never once minded if they mispronounce an english word. i always appreciated their attempt at communication.

that's what it's all about, right??/ being able to communicate with our fellow humans.

take care and happy holidays.

I don't mind if a Spanish speaker mispronounces an English word because I'm sure I would mispronounce a Spanish.

So, the answer is NO. non-Spanish speaking Americans wouldn't care about the pronounciation of a foreigner.

I am an American living in Mexico, learning 'Spanish. I constantly need help from my Mexican friends with pronunciation. However, before I came to Mexico, I lived in Colorado for 30. years. There are many people with Spanish names, many places too. It used to drive me nuts that people who lived there all their lives could not pronounce those common names correctly. It is disrespectful to mispronounce a person's name after years of exposure to it.

I think that if you live somewhere where there are Spanish Names of places you should take the time to leanr to pronounce them somewhat correctly. It's totally ignorant not to. I dont speak SPanish but I grew up in Cali and I can at least say the names of Spanish named cities decently. I lived in Geogia once and the people in my town yused to pronounce Buena Vista byooona vista. Just IGNORANT. Pissed me off.

Yes, I try to pronunciate my fave mexican restaurants names, I know I'm wrong, but I try. However, not very many people in the world can pronunciate a language that is not their first! It's human error and the way we are taught to pronunciate our letters!
