So many couples who have come from different countries manage to communicate perfectly well even though one does not know the native language of the other and use English as their common language. My husband did German at school, not French, and I was born in France, we always speak English between ourselves and the children are all multilingual. We have never have had problems in communication. My German cousin married a Turkish lady and they also always speak English together as she has no German. The rest of the family is littered with couples from different nations who speak the language of only one of the partners. There really is nothing to worry about, and you can have a perfectly harmonious relationship with your partner AND their relatives as they act as go between when the need arises. We now live in a global world and this will happen more and more frequently. If your partner is bilingual, there is really no problem and I would have thought a French Canadian very desirable as he or she has a second dimension.

Yes. But only Spanish or Italian speaking. I can understand a little, and the language does not sound annoying to me.

Yeah, because I speak French. I think it's OK and if I were you, I would learn some basic French in order to start to break down the language barrier. =)

what diffrence would it make if you didnt speak their native language. you are in a relationship with one person not their mother or father. yes it would be good to understand the parents, but if you enjoy being with a person, things like that are kind of petty.
